My dog was recently diagnosed with kidney disease/failure so my vet recommended we switch to a prescription kidney diet. I chose Hills because I trust and have used the brand for my dogs for years. Predictably, because it’s reduced protein, she doesn’t love the flavor of the kibble so I also buy the kd canned to add to it and she will eat if fine. It’s too soon to say if there are any real benefits yet but we’ll determine that with our vet over time.
Spike hates it. He will bark non stop until we find him something else. Tried the canned wet food and he seemed to like that better, however, it becomes cost prohibitive. We have researched fresh food and consulted with a canine nutritionist and have easily made the transition to preparing his food at home. Spike is full, satisfied, and takes a nap when he's finished eating. Best of all, NO MORE BARKING in protest of this Rx k/d by Hills.
When my dog developed kidney disease a few months ago, we started feeding her the kidney care diet. She only ate the canned food products and she especially loved the chicken and vegetable stew, but she never seemed to be satisfied. We knew she should be full, but she would keep begging for more food. She was also needing to get up a few times in the night to urinate. We thought that maybe the very, wet food was causing increased urination, so we decided to give the dry food a try. She really likes the dry food and we supplement it with a little bit of the wet food. She is not getting us up in the night multiple times now. She acts more satisfied with the dry food. The kidney diet really helped with my dog’s lab values. They are back in the normal range. My dog is a 13-year-old Yorkie.
I took my dog to the vet and she was prescribed the special diet. However the vet clinic didn't carry it and all other vet clinics will not sell it to you if they haven't seen your dog. This caused me a huge issue since I spent over $1000 just for her visit and couldn't afford to take her to another vet just to be able to purchase food there. Chewy is the only place I could send my prescription and get the food she needed. You are a lifesaver!
I didn't realize how low I was for Lacey's prescription dry food! Yikes! I would have to go to the vets to pick some up. No, placed the ordered with Chewy and received it with just one serving left. Chewy saved the day!
My dog is Lhasa, 15 lbs, and usually eats Hill’s dry food for small breeds. While the size of this is a little bigger he can and does comfortably eat this. That was not the case for Royal Canine’s RX food for kidney disease, which had huge pieces suitable for large breed plus.
Chewy has the best customer service. They got right on my order after the vet said it was faxed over. The next day the dog food was sent out. I got it 2 days later. My dogs love their new food. Thank you Chewy!
Lilly has been on this prescription food for about 3 weeks, since being diagnosed with Stage 2 Kidney disease. I have already seen a difference in her energy level. Thank you!
My dog had lost a lot of weight despite eating the same daily amount of food and same type of food he’s eaten for 3.5 years. He started drinking tons of water and constantly peeing and became fairly incontinent. All the signs for diabetes. After many, many tests… it was determined it was not diabetes but maybe his kidneys. So we switched to this and his symptoms cleared up. He ran out of the food and there was an issue trying to reorder it so I gave him his old food. I lived 2 hours from the nearest vet so I couldn’t just run over to a vets office. He started becoming incontinent again on his old food. When his k/d food got in and we switched him back, he was back to normal in a few days. This seriously really did the trick.
My K/d dog hates it. Even the vets we've taken her to agree that they probably don't like it because it tastes and smells awful and doesn't really have enough nutrients. A lot of money wasted for another food that she won't touch.
