Feeding Instructions

Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian. For best results & safety practices: Gradually transition to your pets new food over a 7 day period. Exclusively feed the recommended Prescription Diet dry food, wet food and treats. Keep fresh water available at all times. Have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.

Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

FAQ

Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?

We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.

How do I order veterinary diets?

  1. Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
  2. At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
  3. Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Do authorizations expire?

Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Such a relief to find this variety pack!

    By on

All the renal-friendly products for cats are tremendously expensive. Some she likes, some she won't touch. Being able to start out by trying out the variety of different types available in these sample sizes was invaluable! My cat was lukewarm on the dry food included, but when I mixed it with some of her old dry food, she tolerated it. She loved the small cans of wet food, and turned up her nose at the large pate-style cans of catfood in this pack. This really really helped me to know what sort of items to purchase in the larger quantities most things come in, as well as giving me a sense of what textures she was okay with. So great to be able to test the options!

    By on

I love that there is a variety pack to test out the different kidney health options that Hill’s offers. There aren’t very many options for kidney health diets and they are pricey, so it’s great to be able to test some out and find one your cat likes without spending lots of money. My cat wouldn’t touch the dry food, but he loves the pate! I wish the other brands with prescription diets would offer a variety pack also.

Great idea but why not include both flavors of dry food?

    By on

My cat was recently diagnosed with early kidney disease so my vet recommended this diet. This is a great way to see what your cat likes before spending a lot of money on one flavor. I would have given this 5 stars however the pack comes with two packs of dry food but only one flavor. It would have been nice to include the ocean fish flavor as my cat didn't really dig the chicken. Thankfully she liked all of the wet food options.

    picky eater

    By on

I can't commend on the benefits of the hill's product. My cat is a picky eater and even though I mix in his favorite brand, he carefully eats around the expensive stuff and sticks with what he likes. But Chewy.com was quick to fill the order and it's personnel were friendly and helpful when i had questions about the order.

Are you referencing my Chewy order of Aug 31st, which was promised for delivery within 1-3 days, IT HASN'T ARRIVED! Today is SEPT 4, about 2:00 pm; Where, oh, where can my Chewy be? My cat would not eat this

    By on

Really disappointed because my cat would not eat this so I'm trying to find another kidney renal food that will help her. I think it's a great idea they had so many varieties to try (wet, dry, morsels) she is just not a fan of chicken. Wish Hill science diet would make one with salmon.

    Pleasantly suprised

    By on

So my kitty was recently diagnosed with kidney disease at just under 12 yo. He is also a very picky eater. The vet and I didn't have high hope he would like the food so got the variety pack to see if he would like any of it. He did! All of it. His fur is getting it's gloss back and he seems to have gained a little weight back. He is also on a anti nausea/appetite stimulant but even so, he seems to prefer this food over "regular" when I did a side by side. I can't speak to how other cats will like it (because, you know, cats...) but the physical changes are there. I recommend trying the variety pack and hopefully your kitty will take to it too.

Good introduction to a Vet prescribed diet

    By on

We purchased this as a chance to try the different flavors of kidney diet food. Originally we purchased from the Vet, but they only had one flavor and style (chicken and pate), neither of which my cat eats. This way we could try pate and shredded, chicken and fish, to see what would be the best transition. I think we have found two winners in the sample pack. I just wish there was a sample of the fish dry food instead of two of the chicken dry food.
