Is there any way i can get sample kidney diet dog foods so I know which ones Jack will eat. He’s picky n in kidney failure. Help please.
Answer by BoscoJoSep 18, 2023
Check with your Vet, ours gave us two cans of this when our Raggs was diagnosed and let us know we could come back to try the "stew" variety if he didn't like it. Most vets get these types of foods donated specifically for the purpose of letting the dogs figure out what they like best. My Raggs (13 yr old Morkie) is also a picky eater and he loves this stuff.

Is this a pate type or a stew type wet food?
Answer by ChewyDec 16, 2020
This formula has a pate consistency.

What's the shelf life on canned dog food
Answer by ChewyOct 14, 2022
Hill's canned products are guaranteed fresh until the best before date on the bottom of the can. Hill's canned products are guaranteed fresh for 24 months from the date of manufacture, provided they have been handled and stored properly. The product should be stored between 50- and 100-degrees F. Ideally, products should be kept at room temperature. Storage at temperatures below 50 degrees F for more than four days may change the texture, but does not alter the nutritional value of the food.

Paste not grind

I’m sure the formula is healthy as far as kidney care. The problem I have is that it is far too wet and dense in texture. Rather than a “grind” as described and pictured, this food is a paste or pâté. The more I try to get it into manageable bites for my toothless 13 year old 4lb Maltese, the stickier and more smashed it seems to get. When she tries to eat it, the food winds up smashed and smoothed down into her bowl where she can’t get it out. She has to work too hard to eat this formula. The stew type is easier for her but its gravy creates a mess in her Maltese beard. I was hoping this “grind” type food would solve the gravy issue with the stew but I can’t let my tiny doggo struggle to eat. She’s going through enough with kidney failure as it is.

A winning canned chicken dinner

This canned food is for dogs with kidney problems and I wasn't too keen on opening cans, but it's well worth the extra steps to provide 10 year old Dixie with a food she absolutely adores.

Dog loves it

My Yorkie likes the chicken one the best out of the three. He eats it right up. I really wish the chicken one came in 5.5 ounce can though like the other two. Or at least the chicken cans had pull tabs like the other two (the cans I got of the chicken flavor didn't have pull tabs. Please please make the chicken ones in 5.5 ounce cans. But overall my dog likes this renal food.

Dog would not touch it

Another reviewer described this as a "gelatinous, can shaped glob" and that is pretty accurate. Unlike the chicken and veggies or beef and veggies varieties, it comes out in a solid yellow-brown chunk and you have to spend quite a while dicing it up with a spoon to get it to mix in with dry food. After all that work, our dog gave it a resounding no thanks and refused his entire meal. We buy cans to make the dry k/d food more palatable to him, and this was an utter failure. The cans we got also did not have pull-tabs, which made them pretty inconvenient, though the point is moot since we can't feed the other 11 cans anyway.

Half the cans were dented

when I recived this package many of the cans were dented. There was no damage to the shipping package, so I assume it left the original facility in this condition. Not entirely happy with this shipment

Great service!

Great service fast shipping, and a good price for the wet kidney care. But the kidney care dry food price is super expensive as other sites sell it for $53 and you sell it for over $100. Thank you!

He LOVES It!

My (almost) 16 year old Cavapoo had been on Merrick for 14 years so I wasn't sure if he would like a change in his food but his vet prescribed this to help his kidneys. He loves it! And he's eating more and his poop is firmer so no more need of Glandex. Chewy, as ALWAYS, was very helpful and even contacted the vet for the prescription. So happy with the food and so grateful to and happy with Chewy!

not a pull top can

Received my order and this case has no pull too, have to use a regular can opener. Which is fine but the image shows a pull top. My dog seemed to like the flavor though more than the beef.

Doesn’t like this flavor

Though he loves the beef stew food, my dog refuses to eat the chicken flavor. I wish that I could purchase a few cans of each flavor in order to determine which ones my dog likes.
