The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Chicken Canned Cat Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your cat’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.
Key Benefits- Protects vital kidney and heart function with proven nutrition developed by nutritionists and veterinarians.
- Stimulates appetite and increases caloric intake, and supports the natural ability to build lean muscle daily.
- Made with controlled phosphorus and low sodium, plus therapeutic levels of l-carnitine and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Also includes high levels of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
- Made in USA and clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Prescription Diet for Cat
By KDPD on Jan 20, 2021
The Hill's Prescription Diet K/D is a food my cat actually likes. I tried another brand and he would not eat it. Once I discussed with the vet and he said it was one of the best prescription diet foods, I got the sample pack and my cat really liked it. I get both the wet and dry food and now my cat is eating well. I also love that Chewey gets the orders out to me within a few days. Thank you.

Improved Bloodwork
By KDDryFish on Dec 26, 2020
My cat was not super keen on the KD wet food as it is a little less firm that traditional Friskies wet food. I’ve found that refrigerating it does marginally improve the situation. Either way, using this in conjunction with the KD dry food definitely improved my girl’s bloodwork and her appetite. We were basically on our last leg and now the bloodwork is just outside of a normal range, which was a huge improvement so 5 out of 5.

Patrick and Bailey recommend
By Megs on Jan 16, 2021
When I opened can I was a bit concerned about the texture (putting human likes to non human food!!) But the cat brothers chowed it down. Patrick has kidney disease and Bailey is his litter mate so I am giving it to both cats--no way to separate those two clowns anyway!!!

Dented cans but cat loves food
By Maddy on Jan 2, 2021
This is the first time I have purchased this for my kitty that is 13 1/2 years old. She is pretty finicky but loves this. She has always eaten Wellness wet food but never liked the chicken flavor but she gobbles this up. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was due to several cans being badly dented and needing to be thrown out.

Smells gross, but cat loves it!
By Meow on Jan 9, 2021
My cat has gotten a little picky with other prescription kidney foods, so we decided to give this one a try. It was an instant hit, and my cat gobbles it all up in one sitting! My only complaint is that this stuff smells nasty, but I'm fine with that as long as my cat is happy :)

Improvement seen!
By Bertie on Dec 18, 2020
First off, I have a very picky cat who hates changing her food. When my vet requested we switch to RX diet I was dreading it and tried several until we got to this one which she ate immediately! Her bloodwork and urinalysis has already shown improvement after just a few months. Also, Chewy has the most impressive customer service ever!!

He loves it!
By Rizu on Jan 16, 2021
It's been hard finding a wet food that my old guy will eat, especially now that he has kidney issues. The chicken pate is my go-to when he turns up his nose at all the other flavors I have for him.

Gracies not a fan
By Gracie on Nov 10, 2020
My cat Gracie was recently diagnosed with kidney issues as shes 14,.My vet recommended this food. Gracie is picky on how her food smells. But the food claimed to have enhancers to make cats want to eat. Not with Gracie. even when i put the KD dry on top it take five times before she realizes shes not getting anything else. Im also not a fan of the ingredients i dont believe they are as good of quality as the food i was feeding her. And the price is is 3x more than what i was paying. which i am not a fan. But Im trusting my vet. so guess we dont have much choice.

Worst smelling food, cat won't eat it
By Chris on Nov 30, 2020
This is the worst smelling food I have ever run into for cat wet food. I wouldn't care if the cat would eat it, but he won't and he has never been a picky eater. Word to the wise, try a few cans locally first if the vet recommends this food or you could spend a good amount of money for nothing like I did.

Good kidney care; just too solid for my oldish cat
By auburnwatergirl on Oct 28, 2020
This stopped my cat's blood-in-urine issue. I give her this and the tuna-based k/d food, which is much softer. She doesn't bite her food. She only licks it, and this pate is kind of hard so she doesn't take very much. (I think she tires of licking so long and stops.) Chicken fat solidifies at room or fridge temperature, so I took the chill off once it's refrigerated using the microwave, but that still didn't soften it up enough. I finally hit on adding a little water and mixing it in to make it mushier. She takes more now -- seems to like it better.
