I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

wd healthy food
By Fozzie on Jan 25, 2021
Received canned food wasn't what was expected, as Vet prefers dry-for teeth, and influence to drink water. Our dog LOVES this food! Even the cat tried to get into the bag!

Doxie Delicious
By Luvdachshunds on Sep 8, 2020
Our 12 year old Doxie loves his new diet. I was reluctant because he was used to a stew type food. This is a much drier food, but firm enough for him to take his time to actually bite into it rather than just lapping it up. Three months = 2 lbs lost, which is great for his 15 lb body.

Our picky eater!
By Molly on Sep 1, 2020
Molly was using Hill’s dry food, but she decided she wouldn’t eat it. I purchased some of the same Hill’s canned food and I mixed it with the dry. She loves it again!

We make this into treats - dogs love them
By HuskyDogMama on Jul 19, 2020
Our vet recommended this food to be made into treats for our husky with a liver issue. You cut the food into bite-size pieces and cook in a 325 oven for about 20 to 30 minutes - MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMPLETELY HARD AND COOKED - otherwise they will mold/grow bacteria very quickly. Very low fat treat that is minimally processed...

Pork based diet
By RLMunch on Aug 14, 2020
Thank goodness, he loves it. When my DoxiePoo became allergic to chicken, we had to switch to a pork based diet and this is it. It's also low fat so he could shed a few pounds. We all like it.

Great for my senior lady
By DoxieMom on Jul 1, 2020
This food is excellent. One of my miniature long-haired dachshunds is on this food and loves it. She is 15, so maintaining her weight is important. She never refuses to eat it like she has other foods, so that's great. I like that it doesn't have a dog food smell, too.

Good canned dog food
By mrc6254 on Jun 20, 2020
I feed my dog dry dog food. She does due a claritin so I put that into the dog food so she will eat the food with the pill inside. The delivery was very fast. I would always order with Chewy.com

My golden retriever loves this food both wet and dry and is losing weight.
By Sandy on Jun 18, 2020
My dog is losing weight and she has been on the diet for only about one month! She also loves the food. I give her the canned diet in the morning and the same brand in the dry food for her dinner.

Good for the tummy
By Momma on Mar 28, 2020
Eli is 14 and deaf. Has learned a few hand signals and now suffers from arthritis. His walk time is much shorter now and the extra pounds are obviously recognizable. His Vet recommended Hills/rd and he LOVES it! I was skeptical at first but makes feeding time enjoyable for me and him. . I will defiantly continue buying.
