How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Dogs love these!
By Sarah2shop on Jan 31, 2021
I have 2 small dogs. One is normal weight & the other one is 3lbs overweight & now has joint problems. Vet recommended we get rid of all other treats ( which they get too many- large family) & substitute half their food allowance with these dental treats to help with weight loss. Well they love them!! They are the small size & are easy for both dogs to chew. Highly recommend!

Our Greyhound loves this
By GreyhoundOG on Feb 15, 2021
We give this to our Greyhound, OG. She thinks they are treats. She loves them. She plays with them and then eats them. We've been giving them to her since we first got her 10 1/2 years ago. We brush her teeth every night and give her these treats and she's 12 1/2 and has all her teeth and no tartar.

Hill's Science Diet TD
By KCSally on Jan 26, 2021
I've been using it for years as a supplement to the dogs regular feed. The 2 smaller dogs (muts) get 3 chunks per meal and the larger (Aussie) gets 6. They love it. It's the first think they eat. In the AM, they all get a fish oil capsule also. Just thought it was a hassle to get a prescription to Chewy. A racket.

Wonderful!
By Lilliputian on Feb 5, 2021
My 10 pounder had to have 6 teeth removed, and this food was recommended by our vet. I do cut them in half, but she has no problem eating them. We use them as treats because she loves them!

REALLY WORKS!!!
By ObiesMom on Nov 11, 2020
In august of 2017 my now 8 year old, wonderful little Pit Bull boy was diagnosed with Apocrine Ductular Carcinoma. We caught it early and he has had no sign of cancer since!! When he had a full body pet-scan to look for any other cancerous tumors it was discovered he had something going on in his lower right jaw. It turned out to me a HUGE Odontogenic cyst. Most of his teeth except 5 had to be removed along with the cyst. Because of the blood and bacteria in his saliva, prior to the removal, had caused alot of plaque build up and early gingivitis on his remaining teeth and gums his vet recommended the Hill's Prescription Dental T/D food. One year later my little guy was diagnosed with the same cyst yet again in almost the same area of the same jaw. When that cyst was removed the remaining teeth on that side of his mouth went too. The tooth and gum disease was still present although was improving. Since then he has been cyst free and plaque and gingivitis free, AMAZING!! This food REALLY WORKS even though it took awhile and to this day he still eats it and I will always continue to feed it to him. I have also noticed his teeth are white again!! From the time I placed this order to the time it was delivered was 3 days, that's AMAZING too! AS ALWAYS THANKS TO CHEWY - YOU'RE GREAT!!! … more

Scotchbrite for your Pup's chompers
By Scotchbrite on Dec 10, 2020
We use this food as treats. It is the single best tartar removing *edible* we have ever found (in ~20 years). Highly recommended. It is ridiculous that buying this food requires a veterinarian approval in the USA. In Canada, where we first discovered this, it is over-the-counter. Yet another Lobby-enforced fee on the public.

Happy Dog.
By MamaNana on Feb 7, 2021
Good food. Easy delivery. Stupid that dog food requires a prescription. Based on internet research, it’s only done for the profit of the vet

Loves Them
By LuckyMom on Feb 21, 2021
My dog Lucky picks these nuggets out of the bowl to eat first. He gets excited when he sees this bag.

product only works if it is CHEWED!
By Barb on Dec 5, 2020
I bought Hill's t/d to help with tartar and plaque issues, and feed it to my dogs as treats - they just swallow the pieces, which are large, whole - totally bypass the chewing part! Oh, well. But they love the flavor!

We use them as treats.
By Dunedog on Jan 28, 2021
Our dogs love these. I give them each one every day after I brush their teeth. A little reward for their tolerance.
