Questions & Answers

8 Customer Questions

Could this be used as the daily meal and not just a treat?
Answer by ChewyNov 12, 2018
This product can be fed as a complete and balanced diet for your dog. Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian. For best results & safety practices: Gradually transition to your pets new food over a 7 day period. For maximum benefit, this product must be fed as the only food. Keep fresh water available at all times. Have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.

What size are the bites?
Answer by ChewyMay 21, 2022
The kibbles in this formula measure approximately 28 millimeters long x 28 millimeters wide.

Why do I need a prescription for this food?
Answer by ChewyJul 31, 2019
The prescription foods are formulated to meet specific diet restrictions from known health issues. Due to this restriction of specific nutrients, a healthy pet wouldn't do well on this food. A prescription is required to ensure the pet has been looked at by a vet and prescribed the correct food for their condition.

How long will an unopened bag last?
Answer by ChewyJun 28, 2022
As long as it has been stored properly throughout it's shelf life, this food should remain fresh until the best before date listed on the individual package, even after it has been opened. Bags of dry food should be stored in a cool, dry environment under 100°F (38°C) to prevent destruction of vitamins and oxidation of fats leading to rancidity. Foods will retain their best flavor if stored in the original bag, which provides a fat barrier. Storage at temperatures of 120°F (48°C) for more than 48 hours can accelerate the normal degradation or destruction of the vitamins. Studies by Hill's packaging engineers have shown that storage in a variety of plastic containers (garbage cans, zip-to-close bags, garbage or kitchen bags, Rubbermaid containers, plastic pails, etc.) may impart an odor and taste to dry foods that adversely effects palatability. Zip-to-close bags, garbage and similar bags will also not prevent fat migration (e.g., fat will accumulate on the outside of the bag). Storage in clean metal containers (small metal tins, metal garbage cans, etc.) is acceptable. Storage in the original bag in a pet food container is ideal.

The dog loves this.

Having just recently started using it for my dog, I don’t have a conclusive review yet. My vet recommended it because my dog has early signs of dental disease. Instead of feeding her only this food, I use it as a supplement, giving her several chunks a day after her two meals. This dog usually inhales her food, but she does chew these chunks. Hooray!

Great for treats

I use these as treats. My dogs love them and I feel I'm doing something good for their teeth.

They Changed the Product

Okay, so I ordered the wrong "size" of the product; this is for larger dogs. It also looked nothing like the sample my Vet gave me back in September of 2021. So I looked online and the smaller size looks just like the larger size. Here's the problem: the sample I was given was a cute round, airy, crunchy little treat for my dog, who usually eats the w/d formula. This new edition is more like a "cheese doodle" pillow shaped thing. Even when I broke it into pieces my dog wouldn't eat it. It's very messy! I hate when Hill's changes their stuff.

Best dog food

My dog Arlo is a picky eater. Thanks to Animal hospital of Cloverdale I now have my dogs favorite food. I get it delivered once a month. He absolutely loves it.

It is a for my puppy

My puppy has teeth problems. He will not eat (even touch) the little chews meant to help his teeth. He loves his t/d and considers it a treat

Crunchy goodness

I love when my mom adds a few chicken balls to my kibble to round out my meal. My teeth are looking pretty good too (for a older guy!). Happy with the taste and the great crunch!

Big Bites for a Small Dog

Jack likes the vet prescribed T/D nuggets, but he is a small dog and the chunks are too big. I have been breaking the nuggets into 4 pieces. Hopefully it doesn't negate the benefits for Jack. Do they come in smaller chunks?
