Dental care for your pet may be more important than you think. The accumulation of bacteria laden plaque above the gumline can lead to long term oral health issues. Recent studies have demonstrated there is an association between oral health issues and systemic general health issues affecting the kidney, heart and metabolic systems. At Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians have developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to keep your dog's teeth clean and help control the oral bacteria found in plaque.
Key Benefits- Unique kibble shape and size cleans the tooth surface by scrubbing away laden plaque in the mouth to promote systemic health
- Special fiber matrix technology is clinically proven to reduce plaque, stain and tartar buildup
- Fights bacteria-laden plaque, reduces bad breath, and promotes overall health
- Added antioxidants to control cell oxidation and promote a healthy immune system
- Awarded the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) Seal of Acceptance for helping reduce both plaque and tartar accumulation

- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

Didn't think I'd like it but...
By HenryVIII on Jan 13, 2021
After having to have 7 teeth pulled my Vet recommended my human buy this dog food for me. He said he was really pleased with the results on his own dog's teeth. He said it did a great job controling the tarter. I'm a picky eater and my human had some doubts but I really like it!!!! At first I had the regular size but the chunks were pretty big so the Vet gave us a prescription for the smaller bite size food. Its still pretty big but I eat it just fine. Sometimes I get just a pinch of parmaesan cheese sprinkled on it. My human says my breath smells great again too which means more kisses for me!! I wish we could get it without having to get a perscription.

Be sure your dog likes larger treats
By Ruffles on Feb 4, 2021
Perhaps it has to do with the individual pup, but my Schip-a-Pom could not even get this treat into his mouth. It was an expensive disappointment, but I’ll donate to a shelter. It’s a big treat for a little dog. Make sure that your dog likes to gnaw on larger treats.

Great product!
By Duke on Jan 11, 2021
I bought Hills Prescription Diet Small Bites for my dog - a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix - because he has dental issues. The kibble chunks are the perfect size because they are big enough that he has to slow down and chew each crunchy kibble which is good for his teeth. Overall, he likes the food.

Doggie Toothbrush
By Banzai on Dec 25, 2020
At my vet's recommendation my dog has been eating one of these little marvels a day for about 3 years. She is a miniature dachshund, and they have notoriously bad teeth. Happily, Banzai has had nothing but good checkups since she started on these little cookies. And she loves them. She lets me know every afternoon at 2pm that it's time. She'll have them for life.

Healthy snack
By Tony on Feb 3, 2021
Have used this product for years as a snack for my dogs since it was suggested from my vet as a helpful teeth cleaning aid. I give them one sometimes during the day but they get one every evening as a snack. They love it.

This is excellent
By 1234 on Dec 19, 2020
My dog is the pickiest dog. I’ve only been able to find one dog food that he’ll actually eat and even then he would rarely eat it. But with this dog food he actually likes it and eats it every time I give it to him. Took me a minute to get him to even taste it but once he did he loves it. It also cleans his teeth (which are pretty bad) so it’s a win win! I’m so happy with this product.

My doggies love this
By Biscuit on Jan 18, 2021
Thanks Chewy. My dog had a lot of teeth removed I thought he might have a hard time eating this but he doesn't and he loves them, I think it's helping with his breath too!!!

Small Bites ???
By Bonnie on Jan 10, 2021
The bites are anything but small. Our 8lb Dachshund can barely get them in her mouth. I wonder how huge the larger bites are. She does like them and they are helping keep her teeth clean.

Good Dental Item
By LadyLV on Dec 5, 2020
I give maybe 6 of these to my 14 1/2 year old terrier mix as a topper on her food and she immediately takes them to chew and eat. She loves them and they do help clean her teeth from tartar. When she eventually finishes her food she will come to me to refill her dish so that she can have more of the chews.

Couldn't be more convenient, but pricy.
By Woody on Dec 6, 2020
During the pandemic my veterinarian for some reason stopped keeping prescription diet dog food for sale. Forced to find a vendor who wants to make my plight even worse by over-charging and of course they need to charge for shipping! Easy to order. Quick delivery.
