I bought these for my 4 lb chihuahua. I bought the small size with chihuahua on the front of the bag, however, the nuggets are bigger than a dice! No way my chihuahua could eat these. Would have preferred my money back, but instead I was sent another bag. I am cutting them up into pieces so they can be eaten.
These are "small" bites. 1 inch by 3/4 inch balls. Way too big for a small dog and even me if I tried to swallow something that size whole. Easily twice the size of the TD for cats. So I hammered it into pieces...took a long time with a heavy hammer to get thru a dozen pieces. He wouldn't eat it, still too big. I took boning shears and cut each one into 4-8 pieces. Also took a lot of time, managed not to take my fingers off so that was a plus. These pieces he could eat but...nope...even mixed with canned dog food or wrapping the shards in deli ham. Not a good product for a small dog. Iffy on the taste. One thing about Hills though...the velcro closure is great.
My little three pound yorkie had 19 (13 baby/ 6 permanent )removed and she loves these. At first I was cutting them in 1/4 or 1/2 until she got a hold of one that was whole and she went right to chewing it until it was gone I use them as treats and part if her breakfast/ dinner along with wet food. I also let my newly rescued 12 year old with only three teeth have them as a treat.
We have 2 rescue Beagle seniors who had several teeth extracted last November because of periodontal disease. They don't like their few teeth being brushed, so I decided to try Hill's Dental Care about 4 weeks ago. It is a little hard for them to chew the pieces, but they like the taste and persevere through the chewing. We use this food as an after meal treat to clean the remnants of whatever they ate. We're not sure but think the food is working on the plaque and tartar. We hope to see more improvement in a few months.
I used Chewy for this product because they had the best price. It requires a prescription and Chewy contacted my veterinarian and I had the product in 48 hours. Very impressed.
My vet wants my 4 1/2 pound Yorkie to eat this Hill's dental formula for her teeth. I bought the expensive bag and I don't know how she is supposed to even get the kibble that is almost the size of a quarter into her mouth. I can run it through my food processor but what good does it do then? The pieces are irregular or too big or too small to be a good dental food. I need the kibble size like in the joint recipe. Customer service reps had no clue as to what size the kibble actually is, they had never seen it, only read the package to me. DISAPPOINTED.
My dog is a Maltese and she loves this product. She weighs about 10 pounds. Macy takes a piece from her bowl takes it a couple feet away and crunches away. She repeats the process until gone :)
These prescription (by vet) dental chews are a favorite of my Yorkie (he things they are treats). I guess the vet's prescription expired and my recent order had to get re-authorized. The Chewy staff handled everything quickly and kept me informted. My Yorkie did not miss a day of his dental chews/treats. Thanks.
We bought this food, on our vet recommendation. The bag says small bites, and the dog looks small, but the bites are very big. I have to cut each one in 4 pieces and then it is still too big. You can see the comparison in the photo attached. This food costs a lot of money, but is not worth it. Our dog can’t even put it in his mouth.
