Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?
Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Awesome product/service
This was the first time that we ordered from Chewy. We placed an order because I had a coupon and they also offered a nice discount off my first order. This offer made our purchase very reasonable and cheaper than we could of bought from any local store. I will continue to buy at these great deals

Tasty for my two boys
W/d is quality food that my cats will actually eat. They prefer it to their wet food and I give them to them as a treat and a topper for their wet food.

Food okay but the Prices way too high!
The food is alright for what the cat needs, however, with research I am sure I could find comparable. The prices for the prescription diets are really outrageous and I personally do not think they are worth it. Unfortunately the veterinarians do.

Wrong choice
The vet suggested that I switch food for my aging kitty due to his potential bladder infection. So I switched him from what he had been taking for very long time which was filled with fiber as he also struggles with constipation. This new food made him get constipated all over again. I ended up going back to the old food and giving the new bag to my daughter for her cats.

for diet food, cat calls it a win
Our fluffy boy has been told he needs to drop a few pounds and the vet recommended this food. Seamlessly switched over and cat has not fussed at all! Now to hope some pounds drop off!

Prescription
the order arrived quickly. I am wondering why the prescription expires, according to our records on here, when our Vet wrote the order for the food to be given prn (as needed) without an expiration date. It should be unlimited refills.

the new formula caused GI issues
Previously had all 3 cats on this food for a couple years and they did well. Then the new formula came out and had flaxseed and dried beet pulp, and my youngest kitty got diarrhea from it (likely the flaxseed) wish they hadn’t changed the formula! It took a couple weeks to figure this out (I wasn’t aware the formula was changing). Within 2 days of taking him off this food, his poops were normal. The old formula was a 5 star for me!

Cat started ripping out her own first b/c skin became so dry
My beautiful Turkish Angora was fat, and had BM problems. Vet suggested this. In less than two months both my cats started itching, and itching. Next thing you know one them started ripping and licking out her own fur. I'm transferring them back to their normal food. I am not impressed, and very unlikely to ever try anything of Hill's food again after this experience.
