Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

Won't Eat - Need Help
By TIppy on Feb 26, 2021
I have been unable to get my maltipoo to eat any of this kibble. It smells bad. I mixed it in her regular Hill's kibble. She only ate the original kibble. I soaked the new kibble in chicken broth - she wouldn't eat it. I bought bacon flavored vitamin powder to see if she would accept the new kibble with it since she loves bacon. She won't touch it. I mixed the new kibble in diced baked chicken breast. She wouldn't eat that. She is diabetic and will readily eat Hill's Small Paws Light.

OK but pretty processed
By manny on Feb 25, 2021
I was prescribed this food for my 12 year old dog who was just diagnosed with diabetes which is being controlled with insulin and diet. While the dog likes the food and it has really regulated his digestion and bowel, the ingredients don't seem all that "whole" The second ingredient is cellulose and the third is chicken meal!! Tons of supplements. I haven't yet investigated more appealing, less processed alternatives.

Must taste good!
By Laurel on Feb 2, 2021
We are transitioning our elderly dog from high protein to this food for glucose management - she hates the high protein and refused to eat even with additions - once we moved to this she gobbled it up - she is now excited about meal time again and is feeling better - I will say there is a potty adjustment period, especially for us coming off HP, just because this food is high fiber but it seems to be regulating itself after a couple of weeks. I highly recommend!

Urinary crystals and weight control
By Corgimom on Jan 9, 2021
The u/d food that helped my dog not be a miserable moody brat (she was in pain, not really her fault), also made her gain 10lbs in a month. This food has her happy and maintaining a healthy weight. Only down side of the food is she poops 4 times a day. Ordering from chewy was phenomenal. I knew I needed a script so I got one before ordering but as I was still settling in from a move I promptly lost it. When i ordered they said they would contact my vet if i didnt have a script to upload. The next day ( a weekend) they called to let me know my vet required a written script. I miraculously found it that night or the next and the day after i sent it i got a shipping confirmation. The dog loves his new food.
By Chelle on Jan 25, 2021
We were nervous when the vet recommended this new food to help with our schnauzer's blood sugar. He wasn't too crazy about the last food we purchased. Fortunately, he loves the stuff. Chewy customer support was great too. I called and they gave me an email address to forward the vet's prescription. The food arrived on time and in excellent condition.

Why I buy prescription food when it is not medically necessary.
By Cats on Feb 2, 2021
Prescription Science Diet WD was prescribed for our diabetic cat as supplement to wet food. All four of our cats fell in love with the “goodfoods”. The need for prescription has long passed but our current cats refuse to eat anything different.

By Misty on Dec 13, 2020
We just found out in November that I am a diabetic she bought me all the stuff she thought was best for me with prescription and all. But I don’t like it she wants me to like it but I don’t. What can I do? Please let my mom know it is ok if I don’t like it. Maybe she can find something else I like.

By MaddiesMom on Jan 26, 2021
I have a diabetic Westie and a overweight German Shepherd. Having to buy 2 separate bags of dog food was costly. This is perfect for the both of them. I didn’t think they would like it but they love it!
