Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

Groundbreaking Nutrition for Thyroid Health
Hill's breakthrough formula was designed to help felines with hyperthyroidism thrive. Cats with this disorder have an overactive thyroid gland—meaning it produces too much of the thyroid hormone—but limiting iodine in your cat's food can help regulate it. Prescription Diet y/d does that and more, all in a tasty kibble your cat will love. You may even see a difference in as little as three weeks.
Clinical Nutrition
With Hill's, it's not just high-quality ingredients that count. Their focus is on the proper balance of nutrients in every recipe. So, Hill's designed food to help pets with health conditions, providing the right nutrients to support their health. Hill's alliance with veterinarians puts them in a position to find a nutrition recommendation for your pet, no matter what health issue your pet is facing.
Formulated by Veterinarians
Hill's Prescription Diet started with a veterinarian's belief that some health issues could be managed through nutrition. What began as a theory has now been proven through extensive research by a team of over 220 vets, PhD nutritionists and food scientists. The results can be seen in Hill's Prescription Diet therapeutic pet foods.
Meeting the Highest Standards
Providing a food that delivers exactly what it says it does is Hill's number one priority. In fact, they perform over five million safety and quality checks every year. They've established relationships with trusted suppliers and will only accept ingredients that meet stringent standards.

The Taste Factor
You might know that Hill's Prescription Diet is good for your pet, but she's only concerned with the taste. Even though they place a heavy emphasis on nutrition, Hill's hasn't forgotten about palatability. Savory ingredients are combined to produce foods with enticing aromas, textures, and shapes that your pet can't resist.

Try this for your hyperthyroid cat.
By Raysofhopeinc on Feb 20, 2021 Top 250 Contributor
This food has lower iodine which does help a cat lower their t4 levels. I have been using this on a cat that also is taking the pills . And it has helped keep his thyroid levels normal. HOWEVER dont just feed this to your cat alone like they suggest. The cat will get tired of the formula and crave other things after a while. Had this happen before . But if you use it along with a NO fish diet and medications . I believe Its a big help rather than upping the methimozole as this has bad side effects as well. So keeping meds to a minimum. Is a PLUS !..4 stars for the high price.. they took out iodine and charge more for the corn.

Rx food for Smokey
By Ticker104 on Feb 9, 2021
Smokey is a 17 year old, Gray, Female, 6 lbs. Smokey was diagnosed with a Thyroid condition and the Vet recommended I purchase Hills Prescription Diet Thyroid Food. Chewy had the Hill's Rx Cat food in stock. I ordered the food, the food was delivered to the house in a couple of days. Also, the uploading of Smokey's Prescription from the Vet was easy to do. I enjoy doing business with Chewy.

Helped our girl
By FurMom on Jan 30, 2021
My girl Daisy has been using this food along with the Y/D canned food for exactly one year. She cannot take the thyroid medicine so this was the second option we had & I am so glad this is working for her. Just had her labs done 2wks ago & the vet said "keep doing what you're doing everything is normal." This food is worth every penny!

Saved her life!!
By Chuck on Feb 4, 2021
My vet prescribed this food for my senior cat. She was loosing weight, and not feeling well at all. Within a few weeks she was back to her old self, putting weight back on and thriving. This was 4 years ago and she is still doing great. She loves both the wet and dry. I do not feed her anything else, just the y/d. This food truly saved her life!!

Life saver
By Zeph on Jan 3, 2021
The thyroid pills the vet prescribed almost killed me but after a night in the hospital hooked up to an IV and switching to the y/d Thyroid Care Dry Food, I began to recover and add back some of the weight lost and I'm beginning to regain my interest in life. Only problem is, I wish someone would come up with snacks for thyroid impaired cats. I'm getting bored eating the same thing every meal. On a separate note: The canned y/d is inedible after the first serving so my human has to throw the rest of the can away.

Noticeable improvement for our cat
By David9 on Feb 14, 2021
Can’t say anything better than this works. Within a week, we saw our 10 yr old cat improve in her demeanor and energy. Mixed half and half with her normal food, and it did the job.

Saved my old cat!
By Rachel on Dec 6, 2020
My 17 year old cat had a terrible reaction to the thyroid medicine, to the point where she was itching herself so much she was drawing blood and acting like more of a space cadet than usual. This food, combined with the wet food, saved my cat's life! All her symptoms of thyroid problems cleared up in a few weeks when we switched. She appears to enjoy the taste, though she is not picky.

Miracle food for our cat
By Grateful on Nov 9, 2020
We have spent 3 YEARS and THOUSANDS of dollars trying to help our now 13 year old cat. We have done everything. Endless bloodwork. Ultrasounds. Trying endless types of food and medications. It was determined that our cat had very bad hyperthyroidism which led to two bouts of pancreatitis. Unfortunately the methimazole for his thyroid seemed to make him vomit and have awful diarrhea. We tried liquid and pill methimazole and both would induce vomiting right away. We switched to the ear method with a twist gel and it seemed to somewhat help. But the poor cat still had awful diarrhea. They tried steroids, fortiflora, having us switch to hyper-allergenic foods, etc. Still bad. They tried steroids, fortiflora, having us switch to hyper-allergenic foods, etc. Still bad. At my cat's check-up a month ago, we were told that his thyroid got way worse again and they wanted to DOUBLE his medication dose. I told him I suspected the medicine makes him ill. That's when I found reviews regarding this food online. I was upset that our vet didn't think to have us try it - especially because the other hyper-allgenic food was VERY expensive. This is pricey, yes, but not as pricey as we were paying with additional medicine and the other food. I asked our vet about trying this food and she said we could try it but to keep expectations low and keep him on his low dose (just not do the double dose of methimazole). Ya'll. After ONE MONTH on this food, we had bloodwork done on our cat. The vet called us absolutely amazed and wanted to know what we have been doing differently. Our cat's thyroid levels are perfect. We still have him on the lower dose, but I am wondering if he will be able to go off medication all together in the future. Better still, our cat isn't vomiting. He no longer has diarrhea. This food has truly been a life saver for our cat. Give it a try! Note: We took two weeks to break in the food by giving him slightly more mixed with old food every day. … more

Happy Kitty
By Tiger on Nov 24, 2020
My cat was recently diagnosed with high thyroid levels. After trying a medicine, he did not tolerate it well. Our vet recommended changing his diet to food for hyperthyroidism. He really likes his new food. Very happy since he is a picky eater. Waiting for follow up blood work, fingers crossed this helps his thyroid.
