Did nothing productive for my dog's allergies

My pit bull had a bad allergy flair up and rash breakout that my vet attested to it likely being his food and him having a protein allergy. So I got a script for this and after feeding it to him for 8 weeks (and only this, used as treats too and he doesn't ever get fed any table scraps anyway) and spending a fortune it has done absolutely nothing to reduce his itching, rashes or licking issues. I ordered him an allergy test that we are still waiting on the results for and I would strongly advise going that route first before trying this seemingly rip-off food. It is much more productive to isolate the trigger than to just guess and spend an outrageous amount of money that doesn't even fix the issue, it just masks it. You need to KNOW what your dog is allergic to, it can be just about anything and so random, so you can avoid those products. I'm very disappointed in my vet for recommending this without offering any other alternatives first. I should have been more intuitive but I was in a hurry to try and help my dog out because he had to be miserable with all these skin issues.

my lab pup finally has an appetite!

We got our lab pup at 8 weeks and expected a standard, food driven dog. We gave him the food our breeder used and from the very beginning he had a weird relationship with food and water. Having to be coxed into eating. I bought canned foods to encourage eating, but it was still hit or miss. At 8 months he had already been to the vet twice for ear/eye infections. We told the vet about the lack of appetite and lethargy. He suggested a potential allergy. Rather than guess at what the allergy was, we had him tested…he is allergic to almost every basic ingredient in dog foods. So after doing a ton of research I found this product. He is now 100% on this product and he is happily eating regular meals every day. It’s pricey, but it is worth it to finally have our pup eating the way he should!

Chicken food

My dog has terrible allergies so my vet recommended this food. It caused my dogs allergies to worsen to a severe skin infection and when I looked at the ingredients I saw chicken! Chicken is a common allergen so I am not sure why they are making a prescription food with it. Never again would I ever feed this to my dog.

Only food our dog can have

Our vet says this is the only food we can give our dog due to her liver and bowel inflammation. Our girl loves the food, and to see her "peanut butter box" arrive, but we can't get through the 17lb bag before it gets stale and she will refuse to eat the last 25% of it. We end up throwing it out, it is way too expensive for that. Just started buying the 8lb bags, but they are much more expensive per pound. No way around it unfortunately. Our dog likes the smaller kibbles, easier to eat for a senior Labrador. The food doesn't smell as bad as some of the other prescription foods and it's helped her feel better. The Hypo Treats, which are also the Z/D diet are a favorite! We did try another premium well-known prescription of the same type, it was refused by our dog.

A New Favorite

This food is amazing! My pup, Dakota, just wasn’t himself for the last 2 months. Refusing meals/treats and leaving behind half eaten bowls. Since switching to the Hill’s z/d, his appetite is back in full force. This formula is a new favorite in our home and worth the high price!

Finally found the right food!

My berniedoodle has a lot of allergies and is a very picky eater. Finally after many attempts at food and a lot of money wasted, we found the food he will eat! Did I mention I absolutely love this company! If you have a picky eater with allergies, give this a try!

vet contact still a problem

The price was great, the incentives were great, but (again) I had trouble in the conversation between my vet and Chewey. Chewey sent email saying "we've tried several times to contact your vet" and my vet says "we've received no request from Chewey.

Formulation change?

My dog was on this food for about 4 years, it seems that this past 6 months the formulation has changed and he doesn't want to eat it no matter what I do. I tried 2 different bags and he will only eat about 20 pebbles and walk away from his food. I thought he was sick, but after tests and a week of not wanting the food we switched to a different brand and he is eating again.

Lab refused to eat.

The vet put our Lab on this food for dermatitis. Unfortunately, our Lab refused to eat it and actually spit it out! Looking at the ingredients I can't say I blame him. Who wants to eat cornstarch and cellulose? The food got very slimy when wet - even with just slobber with no water and when put in water swelled to more than twice it size!
