Food sensitivities and intolerance are potentially serious problems that can result in sensitive or irritated skin, coat and ear conditions or even gastrointestinal upset. Dogs that have food sensitivities or intolerance, also called adverse reactions to food, typically experience an abnormal response to the protein in the food. If your dog suffers from adverse reaction to food, it is even more important to feed the right diet. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Prescription Diet z/d clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your dog's skin and food sensitivities. In fact, z/d is clinically proven nutrition to help avoid adverse reactions to food. Plus, with the S+OXSHIELD seal of confidence, the Skin/Food Sensitivities formula meets specific nutrient standards shown to promote a urinary environment that helps reduce the risk of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Great for sensitive stomachs and picky eaters
I have a schnauzer who has difficulty processing proteins. This has been the only food he can digest. His sister has a somewhat sensitive stomach but is a picky eater. I had them both of different diets but when he started to try to eat her food, I had to get them both the same. I was surprised at how well she started to eat when changed.

Not sensitive enough
I had to get a new Rx for this food because the big bag of my dog's normal food (royal canin, ultimino) was out of stock. The Vet told me that it should be ok for his stomach and it us not. He has diarrhea and us vomiting.

arrived open
Used to be good shipping. Lately it’s taken WEEKS to get my delivery and this time the box and the bag arrived open… and it smells funny- so I’m left having to run out and find the food the second I need it. I contacted customer service and they sent me a return label so I can do a lot of work to return it without any extra details about will I get a replacement? Will I get a refund? Etc etc. I’m not sure what’s going on with distribution but it might be time to take a break and switch to a different service.

Life Saver
This food literally save the life of my six year old, mini golden doodle! He had severe inflammatory bowel due to food allergies. We had no idea that the food he was eating prior to this was literally killing him! Our vet prescribed this food and he is a brand, new dog and full of energy!

Didn't Work Out for Our Pup
Our pup had been on Royal Canin hydrolyzed kibble for almost a year, so to change it up a bit for him (including flavor), we switched him to Hill's Science Z/D since our pup's veterinary told us it was Hill's hydrolyzed version. We gradually introduced the kibble, mixing Royal Canin with Hill's over a period of about 10 days; our pup's stool went from very loose (initially) to soft (towards the end), but it was never solid throughout the 10 day period. We switched back to Royal Canin and his stool was almost back to normal by the 2nd day. I'm sure Hill's Z/D works for a lot of dogs, but if your pup is on Royal Canin and you're planning on making the switch, I would advise against it. In our experience, it was an inferior product.

Not Small Bites
First couple days this was okay, now refusing to eat it. I put beef broth on it to soften, nope would not eat. Vet thinks bites are too big. The search continue

It Worked!
Our Husky rescue struggled with intermittent bloody mucousy diarrhea, we think triggered by spoiled food, for almost two months. We were feeding him a bland diet of fresh cooked meat, rice, and pumpkin but it had no lasting effect. Finally our vet suggested we try the hydrolyzed protein kibble instead of going down the rabbit hole of testing for odd diseases etc. but she warned it may take 4 to 6 weeks to see results. We saw improvements within days as we slowly weaned him off of the fresh food. By two weeks time, we were ready to declare him cured! We worried he would not like the flavor or be able to chew it with his worn down teeth, but unlike the fresh food, he is now a member of the clean plate club and loves it! Hills Z/D to the rescue.

Bad prescribed food
My dog fell ill after eating this prescribed food. She had very loose and extremely stinky poop for 3 weeks so I stopped feeding her with this food. As soon as I changed her diet, she began to improve. I would have never imagined this would happen with such expensive dog food from Hills. It affected her liver. Now she is recovering.
