How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Groundbreaking Nutrition for Digestive Health
Hill's Gastrointestinal Biome dry dog food was formulated using a different approach to digestive care. This kibble helps your dog's stomach break down food more efficiently using a specific blend of active fibers. This blend, ActivBiome+, can help promote healthier stool and improve regularity. Other beneficial ingredients may help promote a healthy urinary system, too—they call it S+OX Shield.
Clinical Nutrition
With Hill's, it's not just high-quality ingredients that count. Their focus is on the proper balance of nutrients in every recipe. So, Hill's designed food to help pets with health conditions, providing the right nutrients to support their health. Hill's alliance with veterinarians puts them in a position to find a nutrition recommendation for your pet, no matter what health issue he's facing.
Formulated by Veterinarians
Hill's Prescription Diet started with a veterinarian's belief that some health issues could be managed through nutrition. What began as a theory has now been proven through extensive research by a team of over 220 vets, PhD nutritionists and food scientists. The results can be seen in Hill's Prescription Diet therapeutic pet foods.
Meeting the Highest Standards
Providing a food that delivers exactly what it says it does is Hill's number one priority. In fact, they perform over five million safety and quality checks every year. They've established relationships with trusted suppliers and will only accept ingredients that meet stringent standards.

The Taste Factor
You might know that Hill's Prescription Diet is good for your pet, but she's only concerned with the taste. Even though they place a heavy emphasis on nutrition, Hill's hasn't forgotten about palatability. Savory ingredients are combined to produce foods with enticing aromas, textures, and shapes that your pet can't resist.

Fantastic food
By Lucygirl on Feb 10, 2021
My dog has been on Royal Canine gastrointestinal food for a long time and still experienced bouts of IBS. Vet changed her to this food and she is doing great! Stools have firmed up. She has more energy and her coat is shiny again. Btw... Chewy.com is super awesome. I ordered the food early evening and it arrived on my porch the next morning! WOW! Totally impressed!

Great for IBD
By Jane on Jan 14, 2021
My dog has IBD and is on a lot of medication as well as prescription gastrointestinal dog foods. I have to rotate through her food because she is picky and gets tired of her food easily. This was a new food to me. She recently had a flare-up and was refusing food. After a trip to the emergency room, I offered the Gastrointestinal Biome and she ate. She has been eating it for over a week and her stool has improved remarkably. I hope Hill's will make additional "flavors" because it has made a difference.

ALMOST LOST HIM
By Mago on Jan 20, 2021
My 60lb terrier mix has pancreatitis. He was a very sick boy. After not eating for about 5 days going through a very rigorous ordeal with the vet clinic, I decided to put him on the gastrointestinal biome wet and dry food. The transformation in this dog was miraculous. I don't think I have ever seen him as healthy in many many years. Yes, it's very expensive but after almost putting him down (12 yrs old), I see a total rebirth in his attitude and spunk! Hubby and I are totally grateful for this product.

So far so good
By Maya on Feb 8, 2021
Just started my picky eater on this. Trying hard to avoid having her anal glands removed. Too early to tell if itis making a diffemce, but she is eating it. My only suggestions is to sell smaller cans for toy breeds and to offer more flavors. She gets bored quickly.

Helped with Diarrhea
By SuzNY on Jan 11, 2021
Although process dog food isn't generally good for your dog, our Vet recommended it for our dog as she had diarrhea for many weeks due to a bacteria overgrowth. We started feeding her this along with probiotics and a biome supplement and it has helped. The food is easy to digest for her sensitive system. The added biome in the food helped as well as the extra capsule we give her.

New Formula?
By Peanut on Jan 9, 2021
We recently made a new order from Chewy and this time we got both the canned and dry formula food made by Hills. Our dog likes this new ingredient list much better than the old. Chewy gets the product to us faster than they promise with never a problem.

What a difference
By Lola on Feb 2, 2021
Lola, a miniature pinscher, would go days without eating. Tried every recommended brand until Biome came along. Now she eats every morsel. Life is so much easier now without worrying about her nutrition.

Great product for digestive issues!
By Loghome1 on Jan 12, 2021
Ive used this product for years Dogs find it highly palatable and it has a gravy mix which is easier than scoop out of the can. I’ve used the dry product too and it works great! I think it’s the best product on the market for digestive issues Highly recommend!

Canned RX DOG FOOD DAMAGED
By Dented on Dec 30, 2020
I received a 12 pack of gastro-intestinal biome. 9 of the 12 were dented. I needed the food so I went ahead and fed the dogs with it cautiously. I would ask that should you not send dented cans. I will be reordering.
