Adjust feeding amounts as necessary to maintain optimal weight. If you are unsure, ask your veterinarian.
A gradual transition to a new pet food is important to avoid digestive upset. To transition, mix your pet’s current food with the new food. Over 7 days, gradually decrease the amount of the current pet food while increasing the amount of new pet food.
I had read the reviews about how big these are, and I was worried my cats might not be able to eat it, but that wasn't the case. Both of my cats LOVE this food. I've been mixing it with their other dry food and my older 12-yr old cat will leave her wet food bowl when she sees me filling the dry food bowl (never did this before), then she picks out the oral care food and will only eat this. The size does not bother her at all. My younger cat is small--only 10 pounds, and he also has no trouble with the bigger pieces. They both really enjoy it, which is great because it is next to impossible for me to brush their teeth.
It would probably be difficult to find a better, cat-nutrition product ... in the area of taking care of a feline's dental care, than this one. "Gracie" is often, somewhat-picky in finding cat food to her LIKING, but the Hill's Science Diet bag is doing really WELL. I hope that others will find this to be as effective, as I've found (it), so far.
Our Vet recommended this food for our cats oral health. We were not sure how well they would adjust to it but was necessary not a option. We mixed half the Oral Care food with their regular food for a week; than each time we filled the bowl more of the Oral Care food was added than their regular food. They adjusted to the Oral Care food in a week, with only one stomach upset by our older and most sensitive cat, that first week. He loves this food as well as the other two.
I can’t speak to the effectiveness of this on my cat’s teeth yet, but I can say that the seal on the 7 lb bag is very poor. It doesn’t close properly most of the time so the food gets too hard; when I first bought it you couldn’t hear my cat eat it but now it makes a hard crunch. He likes it but I’m going to have to throw out half the bag. It’s supposed to let the tooth sink in, scraping it; not break in half with a cracking sound.
My cat loves this food and had no problems eating the larger size pellets. I don't know the dental effects as we just started using it so fingers crossed that it works!
Much loved by my 3 guys. A replacement for Royal Canin's prescrip SO indexed dental food. I use it as a treat (ea guy gets sevl per day) to go along w/their kibble. This food has real, good ingredients, not just hydrolyzed protein. RC's non prescip dental fd was unavailable, so I tried this one from Science Dt. Very glad I did; my cats are glad, too.
I started Oral Care food when my 2 cats, brother and sister, were 7 years old. The girl-cat had to have her teeth cleaned + 2 extractions, due to much tarter build-up. Her brother was OK. Now they are both a healthy 15 years old. My girl cat has had no further problems, and my boy cat is just diagnosed with some tarter build up. I was given the option of having his teeth cleaned before he gets much older. I agreed to have his teeth cleaned. I give all the credit to my cats aging healthy teeth to Oral Care. It was suggested by my vet at the time my girl cat had her teeth cleaned. My cats like it, and I also like the fact that it gives them more fiber in their diet. The kibbles are large and crunchy. I don't have to give additional dental treats to them. I have always mixed it in 50/50 with Hills prescription i/d for sensitive stomach, since my girl cat has a nervous stomach. I highly recommend Oral Care.
I have never gotten a Science Diet food and not had my three cats go crazy for it. That is especially good for this type, and it definitely improved their breath. When I ran out and didn't buy more, I noticed a big difference in my cats' breath and plaque buildup. Now I mix it in with their regular food to assure their teeth are kept in good shape.
My cat had horrible breath I started mixing this food into another food and it has helped so much
This is the only kibble I have known that NO cat will turn down! They all love it! Although it is a tad pricey I feel good that it helps with their dental care. Since the pandemic it has been in short supply locally but have been lucky to always have received it with my Chewy orders. I use this kibble a few days a week to make it more affordable while feeding Iams and purina too.
