Oh, y'all...I rarely write reviews because I just rely on info other people post. That being said, I'm taking the time to write this one. My Frenchies absolutely LOVE these sticks! They are super hard, so they spend a long time working away at these treats. If you have a dog that is a heavy chewer, this is the stick they need. It's wide enough so it doesn't get stuck in my Frenchies throat. (They basically put stuff in their mouth & swallow - they don't actually chew, lol) This magical stick actually makes them work at getting a small amount at a time, so it keeps them interested & occupied for a long time. We have a lab/English bulldog mix pup and he is a picky chewer. Haha. He prefers shoes, wires, tools, tweed jackets, and toys to any chew bones. We tried (and wasted our money on) several different of the plastic type bones for big chewers and he wouldn't even touch them. I don't blame him. Who wants to break their teeth on hard plastic? He loves rawhide but swallows it whole... And same with natural bones. So I was struggling to appease his need... His need for tweed. Har Har Har. Nevermind. THEN I came across these Himalayan chews and I am IN LOVE! I wish I had found these 9mos ago. Oh the money we would have saved on things this dog has ruined! So yeah. They're hard, but soften some as he chews and last a long time. Like, days. I guess if he sat and chewed for an entire day, they might not last as long, but he will chew a good hour and then leave it and come back to it later. The microwave part is fun for him once he's sort of lost interest in that last tidbit. I kind of wish these were for me. They smell so cheesy. Hehe he. Anyway... I will always have these on hand now. … more

  • Was really excited for an alternative to bones

    By on

We have 3 dogs that range from 65-80lbs and all 3 of them loved their new treat the first time we tried them. I loved them because they kept my dogs busy for nearly 3 hours. They each received another one a few weeks later and they were not nearly as excited. One of the dogs went out and buried his after only 10 minutes and the other 2 only spent about 30 minutes working on theirs. I was very disappointed at this point but we have another package and will try them again after a while. I really want them to like them since it is a natural product and they need an alternative to bones.

  • I love Yak Milk! So does Harley!

    By on

During the two days a week Harley Dad and I both work outside the home and will be away for several hours, we give our 13 mos old Lab/Golden a more substantial treat to keep him busy in his crate. He is a highly aggressive chewer. Stuffed toys are like dust in the wind, vaporized in a matter of minutes. Harley has earned the nickname "El Destructo." He enjoys things that he can consume or destroy as well as rubber/kong type toys. He's actually managed to shred "fire hose" toys.... He loved this. It lasts him for close to an hour. And, it's healthy.

  • The dogs love 'em

    By on

Since I tried the first ones, my dogs have loved them. I especially like that the Himalayan Dog Chews are hard and it takes a while for the dogs to gnaw through them. I also like that they have very few ingredients: Cheese (Pasteurized Processed Skimmed Milk), Salt, Lime Juice. When the piece gets small enough that I worry they might try to swallow it whole, I take it and microwave it. Then it turns into a hard, crunchy cheesy poof! After letting it cool a while, I can cut them in half. The two dogs crunch them right up. I've recommended these to others lots of times.

  • Are there differences?

    By on

I've been purchasing the Original Himalayan Chews at my local pet store. I decided to purchase them from Chewy.com. The ones purchased from Chewy seem to crumble quite a bit more than the "original" chews I've purchased from pet store. There were crumbs all over the place and my dog seemed to go through them like water. Is there a difference in quality from one store to another. Not sure if I would recommend or even purchase more of these from Chewy. In fact I have an unopened bag which I am hesitant to open. As for Chewy.com, I have and will continue to order other things from them.

I was looking for something harder than the rubber bones that my puppy seems to be able to shred into pieces immediately and softer than the hard plastic bones that my older dogs have broken teeth on. These chews fit the bill perfectly. They start out rock hard, but soften up a little as soon as the dog starts chewing so they can't really bear down on them. Although they get a little slimy when they get drooled on a bit, once they dry they harden right back up. And finally, there are instructions on the bag for how to cook the small, unchewable leftover pieces into a neat treat so you don't have to throw them out. My 1-year-old pitbull is an incredible chewer who plows through everything in record time (thick bully sticks last 20 minutes, "indestructible" toys end up in pieces). We got her these, and have given her two now, and both have taken at least a full day for her to eat. Note that they're not all the same size in this package, so we gave her the smallest one first, which took about 12 hours, and then the largest one next, which took about a day and a half. One thing to note: these make a mess on your floor, and my dog wasn't always interested in cleaning it up, but it does vaccuum right up and it doesn't smell and it doesn't stain so it was no problem at all. Also definitely heed the instructions to take the end away from your dog and soak/microwave it before giving it back to them. The first time, our dog ate the last half-inch or so before we realized she was down that far, and she vomited it up the next day. The second time, we microwaved as instructed on the package, and let her eat it outside because it was messy, and she LOVED it. Anyway, yes, I know these look super expensive compared to other chews but they are SO worth it and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Getting them from Chewy is an added bonus--in the years I've been shopping here, this company has routinely provided some of the best prices and customer service I've ever seen. … more

  • Himalayan Chews

    By on

I ordered these chews after the first. Ones I Ordered were no longer in stock. There appears to be a varying hardness to these chews from supplier to supplier and this recent order was not bad: 85 on the hardness scale. The original purchase was harder which takes longer for our dog to consume it. She really loves these things! Once again I can't say enough about Chewy's customer service. Gabby chewed the buckle on her car safety harness and I asked to get a replacement buckle. They sent me a brand new harness no charge.

  • Awesome product

We have a heavy chewer. He goes through toys and bones super fast, so when we found out about Himalayan dog chews, we knew we needed to try it. Purchased this at a great price. He loves it! He's only 19 pounds, but as a heavy chewer, he does goes through these fairly quickly. One chew will last him maybe 2-3 days if we just leave it with him. But we do take it away so he doesn't overdo it. No smell, but if you let him chew it on your favorite jacket, it will leave residue lol. Very happy with this product, will purchase more.
