My dogs love yak chews, but these ones had a very strong mildew smell so I couldn’t give them to my pups. Luckily Chewy refunded me right away. A tip for others using yak chews is to take them away once they are small enough to swallow! My dog swallowed a large chunk once and had a vomiting episode as a result. They can be dangerous if you don’t watch them.
I have a mini schnauzer that amazes me how fast he can devour a large dogs bully stick or any other type of thing meant for chewing. It has been hard to financially keep up with him as they are so expensive. UNTIL he got these Yack Cheese sticks. He loves loves loves them and takes him days to go through ONE. And the best part is, I don’t have to stress about the last part. He naturally stops when it’s about 1/2” left. I then take it and put away for his next experience of an enlarged version of it. I throw it in water, (left it in there all day by accident), popped in microwave for a little over a minute. Poof! It puffed! Let it cool off and that was a whole other lengthy chew experience for him. I am now stocked up on these and love that it doesn’t have sticky residue left over to get in his beard or discolor it (beard is white). His hair is not sticky on his paws and I don’t have to worry about unnatural products.
My 2 year old Morkie LOVES these. I always make sure to have them on hand. He can chew on these for hours. He gets very excited once he sees them! I was afraid they were to hard at first but he knows exactly how to chew it enough to make it soft enough to eat for his liking. Once it gets to small pop it in the microwave and poof it’s a puff! He loves it even more!
My dogs like it. But in the past, the chews lasted a very very very long time. And this time they seemed to be able to chew through much more quickly and one dog ate about 2.5 inches in 40 minutes. I didn’t watch closely because usually they are so long lasting. And she was really sick from it. I will go back to the other brand next time.
We have been using these for over a year and love them. They last longer than a bully stick or fish skin, and for our dog with beef and poultry allergies they are a safe option. Both our dogs love these. One dog will chew for a while, leave it and come back later. The other will chew through the whole thing if we let her. We get these out for 30 minutes, let them chew and then put them away. They are a good alternative to boredom and mischief! When they get to be about two inches in length we follow the instructions on the back of the package, and the dogs get a giant, crunchy cheese puff. A very special treat. All good things.
We’ve been ordering this product for over a year but this batch looks inedible with many brown spots. I added the one we ordered before for comparison in the photo. Please be aware before ordering
DO NOT BUY THESE, THEY ARE A HUGE GI OBSTRUCTION HAZARD. My lab was chewing on one of these almost 48 hours ago and absolutely loved it. However, a couple minutes ago he vomited a solid, undigested chunk of the chew that sat in his stomach for almost two days. There is no way these are ONLY cheese (listed as the only ingredient). Please don’t put your dog at risk of needing a $5,000 emergency surgery to pull one of these out of their GI tract, which is also a VERY risky surgery!!!
As soon as I opened this package I was hit with a weird odor. I’ve never had this happen before? The sticks smell so strongly of mold I actually had to put them inside a ziplock bag. Thank god my pup only had one for about 2 minutes before he walked away from it, and he usually loves yak bones. It’s possible that I received a bad batch, but I probably won’t buy this brand again just to be safe.
I have bought theses in stores many times. I have also ordered them from chewy for a few months in a row. My most recent experience was not good at all. I noticed a mildew smell as I was getting one for my dog today, It really stunk and the bag had been opened and put in a baggie for less than a week. I thought maybe it was a fluke or I had it opened for too long. So I opened the second package that was brand new and it also smells like mildew. My dog wouldn’t even take it from me, and they are one of her favorites usually. Won’t be buying these again.
My husband swears there are drugs in these chews as our 10 month old mini aussie labradoodle goes nuts throwing the chew in the air and playing games with it. He also chews it at a moderate (for him) rate. We order the "hard" chew Yak cheese sticks as our "Yankee Doodle" can chew up rocks!
