Once in nine lives, something extraordinary happens, as depicted in Homer's Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned about Love and Life with a Blind Wonder Cat. The last thing Gwen Cooper wanted was another cat. She already two, not to mention a phenomenally underpaying job and a recently broken heart. And yet when her veterinarian told her about a three-week-old eyeless kitten that had been abandoned, it was love at first sight in this true story.
Warned by just about everyone that Homer would always be an underachiever, the kitten that nobody believed in quickly grew into a three-pound dynamo with a giant heart. He easily made friends with every human he met, living an impressive life that included scaling seven-foot bookcases with ease and being trapped alone for days in an apartment near the World Trade Center after 9/11. Homer even saved Gwen’s life when he chased off a home intruder in the middle of the night—and yet it was his loyalty, love and joy in the face of all obstacles that truly transformed Gwen’s life. And so by the time she met her future husband, Gwen realized that Homer taught her the most valuable lesson of all: Love isn’t something you see with your eyes.
