I've worked with rescue dogs of various breeds and sizes with differing health and allergies since... well seems like forever. My latest adoption is a GSD that's allergic to EVERYTHING. I was convinced most companies were trying to kill the poor guy instead of nourish him. On a recommendation checked out Kindly grain-free and am in love (massive potato and sweet potato allergy so can't do other base). He literally is bouncing as I mix and can't understand why I walk away from kitchen when needs to sit on the back counter during outdoor morning chores. He gets to happily lick the spoon though. When I pull out the lamb he's about ready to combust. Only been on a short time but I'd be lost without this food. Making life easy and enjoyable and healthy. Easy to mix up and do enough for a day or two at a time. Will even use with other dogs coming into family later on. Love that I have more control too with intake, heavy work out days add more, couch potato day/bing watching movies (he makes a great blanket) a bit less. This product helped save my dogs life from being on massive allergy medication and surgery for ear infections. Thank you! THANK YOU!!! … more

I'm not going to lie. I'm a huge fan of the idea of Honest Kitchen. I want to feed my dogs the best I can, and Honest Kitchen has some wonderful marketing. I found out about 6 months ago that one of my dogs has a fairly serious allergy to grain storage mites. We decided to move away from kibble. I really liked the idea of a base mix, and getting to control what protein is being used. Kindly seemed to fit the bill. I really like that it doesn't have potatoes in it. Unfortunately, the other things in have potential to cause issue. My biggest problem is the size that vegetables are being left. There are some rather large pieces of carrot and what not... that come out looking much as they I'm not going to lie. I'm a huge fan of the idea of Honest Kitchen. Dogs aren't really designed to eat veggies... but they can get good nutrition from them, if they are completely pulverized before being fed. I began putting my box of Kindly though the Vitamix before feeding it, and that helped a ton! No more orange flecked poop! However, for a diet this expensive, I don't feel like I should have to do so much prep work! … more

  • Excellent choice for dogs with multiple food allergies

I was looking for a food that was chicken free, grain free and without sweet potato since my Wheaten Terrier has problems with all 3. It has been a challenge to find what I need for him. Kindly, the base mix that I add protein to, is wonderful. My dog loves it, really loves it. His allergic itchiness is going away and his weight is perfect as well as his poop!

  • Great product

    By on

I have a aging husky who is getting extremely picky with what he will eat and it is time consuming and difficult to make nutritious home made food. This product is easy to use and he loves it. My vet recommend it and I couldn't be happier truly knowing that my beloved boy is getting what he needs.

  • We think Honest Kitchen is tasty

We had to find an alternative to Orijen kibble since the company has made it increasingly difficult to obtain. Chewy offered us money off to try replacement foods, and after much research, this is what we decided on. We have tried both grain free base mixes since we already eat raw, and we both have to say that this stuff is deee-lish! It's much better tasting than those nasty raw veggies they used to give us. And it has a much better variety of human-grade foods than we had before--so, all-in-all we give it a definite two-paws up! yay! Orijen problem solved!

My dog is eating healthy! He's doing very well with this natural food. I'm so glad I stopped giving him the processed kibble.

  • Healthy food for my dog!

I love The Honest Kitchen Preference grain free base mix for my 15 month old golden retriever. The mix is easy to use and I love adding my own, homemade, human grade protein and being able to vary the protein while knowing she is getting everything she needs. The "meat" added to many processed dog foods is scary at best. My dog weighs 60 pounds and I use 24 oz wide mouth mason jars to make one day's supply of base mix. 1 and 1/8 cups of mix with 1 and 2/3 cups of water. I sometimes use homemade broth instead of water. I mix the base mix the night before, then feed half of the base mix in the morning and the other half in the evening and add her protein and any other add ins on top of the base I love The Honest Kitchen Preference grain free base mix for my 15 month old golden retriever. She loves this stuff and licks the bowl clean. My dog does eat everything, though. I recommend mixing it the night before and storing in the refrigerator as it didn't have a great consistency when just soaked for the suggested 3 minutes. My dog still ate it and loved it, but I prefer it to be thoroughly absorbed before she eats it. It does look a bit like a science experiment gone wrong. I also use the mason jars to measure and store one day's worth of protein. That way, anyone can feed the dog as it's just half of both jars in the morning and the remainder at night along with any add ins. I cook the meat in a big batch then divide it into one day's portions in the jars, freezing the extra jars. My pup is doing very well on this food and is lean, healthy and happy with a beautiful coat! … more

  • Way better than kibble!

The Honest Kitchen has some of the best products on the market so I was eager to try this on my small, picky, sick, elderly dog. She was not a fan, even with a lot of meat added though I wish she was as this food is great quality. My greyhound, however, has been doing great on this diet. All of my future houndies will be on this food for sure.

  • Perfect added to ground raw meat for a complete meal!

Very pleased and so easy, no more cutting up pounds of veggies. Just add water, let soak for a bit then I add coconut oil, raw meat and organs and ground bone, mix well form into patties and freeze until needed.
