Feeding Instructions

This dehydrated dog food will expand after you add water to it so a 10 lb box equals 40 lbs of fresh food. To serve, simply add warm water, wait 3 minutes, and serve for a fresh, wholesome and delicious meal!

Transition Instructions

If your dog has never tried our foods before, we recommend starting out slowly. Over a period of 1 to 2 weeks or so, start by adding just a small amount of the Honest Kitchen (with water added) into your dog’s current meals. Gradually increase the amount of the Honest Kitchen while decreasing the amount of your dog’s original diet.

The Honest Kitchen may be mixed in with your dog’s current dry kibble, canned, raw, etc. However, we do not suggest adding in other extra ingredients during the transition if you can avoid it, especially if your pup’s system is very sensitive. After you’ve successfully transitioned your dog to the new food, perhaps after 2-4 weeks or so, and they are doing well, then you may consider adding in extra ingredients or introducing another honest kitchen recipe, etc.

  • Good food. But not for some sensitive dogs.

I started my Parson Russell back on the limited ingredient turkey from THK after several years on kibble. He suffers from colic with kibble. I thought a change of proteins would be good for interest (not that he had a problem), and ordered the duck. After the first meal he became very gassy. And couple meals later he began to refuse, which isn't like him. Half way through a 4lb box I had to order the turkey in again, & got him started back on it right away. One meal later he was happier and no more gassy discomfort. Plus he was much happier to eat again. I think the duck is a good diet, but maybe the beans (or a combination of ingredients) were difficult on my dogs stomach. After a week on THK he had noticeable changes. He is much leaner, thinner, and has been able to easily build lots of muscle. He hasn't looked this good in years. … more

  • Dog loves it!

Making your own raw diet food at home is both time consuming and a bit of a crap shoot that you've gotten the proper nutrients included. This solves both problems. It takes about 15 minutes to fully re-hydrate. If you don't wait that long the chunks tend to pass straight through the dog. My pup loves the stuff - dances on her earlobes until it finally makes it into her dish and her coat, skin and energy level are all superb.

  • Good for my Goldendoodle!

My protein allergic four legged family member loves this, and I am thrilled to say that she does not throw up 5 minutes after she eats! The Spruce and the Brave are the only two that we have found that she can tolerate! LOVE Honest Kitchen!

  • Neither of my easy to please dogs like this

    By on

This is the first food I've fed my dogs where they had to be sweet-talked into eating it. One of my dogs is a former Puerto Rico street dog who spent seven years scavenging for food; as you might imagine, he's easy to please. However, he hates this food! He actually cowers when I put it down like he's afraid I'll force him to eat it. I've tried mixing it with foods my dogs do like and they'll reluctantly eat it once they get hungry enough. I wish they liked it more because it's a good price for dehydrated food and I like that it doesn't take long to rehydrate, but no luck.

  • Love this!

Robley has such strange eating habits I will put the recommended amout of food in the bowl mix with water (like I really follow the directions) and this beast of a puppy will eat like a fourth of it and then come back 6-10 hours later and clean the bowl?? All and all I think he likes it but that just his behavior with the honest kitchen food bc he has done that with all of them??? Bit it's what I use in place of raw we take honest kitchen breaks from raw food and I wouldn't feed him anything else all my dogs have always responded well to HK

  • Healthy and dog-approved!

I love Honest Kitchen. I can't afford to feed it as my dog's entire meal (s) each day but I do use it as a yummy topper on his (5 star) kibble. I love that it is healthy and that he really enjoys the taste. Great product!

  • Mushy but tasty

    By on

Well the dogs like the food but in my eyes it's pure mush so I personally wouldn't feed this as a meal in itself. I add it to the home cooked food and the raw food as a topping. I give some to my puppy with her kibble until she graduates to raw and cooked. My dogs eat it up so it must taste good.

  • Dog sniffed it and walked away

I'm sad to say that my dog looked at it and looked at me asking with her eyes 'what else you got?' We did this routine for several days - I even tried mixing in cooked chicken and she would have none of it. Sigh.

  • Our girls LOVE!

Our girls (a mini dachshund and a blue heeler) love Honest Kitchen and this flavor was no exception. They can't wait to eat their food (we mix with some dry Nature's Logic kibble) every meal!

My dogs' favorite! Even the picky eaters love this. Better than any other commercial dog food sold with real food.
