Feeding Instructions

This dehydrated dog food will expand after you add water to it so a 10 lb box equals 40 lbs of fresh food. To serve, simply add warm water, wait 3 minutes, and serve for a fresh, wholesome and delicious meal!

Transition Instructions

If your dog has never tried our foods before, we recommend starting out slowly. Over a period of 1 to 2 weeks or so, start by adding just a small amount of the Honest Kitchen (with water added) into your dog’s current meals. Gradually increase the amount of the Honest Kitchen while decreasing the amount of your dog’s original diet.

The Honest Kitchen may be mixed in with your dog’s current dry kibble, canned, raw, etc. However, we do not suggest adding in other extra ingredients during the transition if you can avoid it, especially if your pup’s system is very sensitive. After you’ve successfully transitioned your dog to the new food, perhaps after 2-4 weeks or so, and they are doing well, then you may consider adding in extra ingredients or introducing another honest kitchen recipe, etc.

Dehydrated for Maximum Nutrition

Dehydrated for Maximum Nutrition

The Honest Kitchen has adopted a time-honored dehydration technique for gently preserving their foods. This helps to retain more of the natural vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients found in the whole food ingredients.

Highly Concentrated and Easily Digestible

The dehydration process removes the moisture from the food, making it compact and nutritionally dense. So, a 10-pound box makes 40 pounds of fresh food. The whole food ingredients are also diced for easier digestion and nutrient absorption.

Ingredients with Integrity

The Honest Kitchen is made in the USA, and their recipes use only the highest-quality ingredients, with no additives, preservatives or GMO ingredients. To ensure quality, their suppliers must meet strict standards for food safety, as well as sustainability and fair-trade practices.

  • So far so Good for my Golden

    By on

I was unsure when I opened it because it just looks like hamster bedding. I followed the directions and mixed it with her quality kibble. She has allergies to poultry so she normally eats Wellness Ocean. Once I put the bowl down she ate everything and licked the bowl. I’ll update as time goes on.

  • Good product, just maybe not this flavor.

This is a good product, just maybe not this flavor. My dog refuses to eat this food if it's not mixed with something else. I'm very hesitant to try another flavor because I'm unsure if it's the consistency that's turning him off (which I'm assuming because he's eating it when it's mixed with his kibble) or the flavor (a possibility as well, the kibble could be masking some of the flavor of the duck). This food also makes him very gassy. Either way he doesn't have many options because he has a food allergy to chicken. This flavor might be a perfect fit for another dog. However, I do recommend this food brand

  • bad taste, weird texture

    By on

my dogs don't like this at all...and they'd eat almost anything so the only conclusion I came to is that it must taste pretty bad. i'm not going to taste it but I can say it doesn't smell good. also, the chunks don't soften up very much and there's too much powdery substance so it ends up being a weird texture...like gel. this was too expensive for the poor quality, not what I expected at all.

  • Good food. But not for some sensitive dogs.

I started my Parson Russell back on the limited ingredient turkey from THK after several years on kibble. He suffers from colic with kibble. I thought a change of proteins would be good for interest (not that he had a problem), and ordered the duck. After the first meal he became very gassy. And couple meals later he began to refuse, which isn't like him. Half way through a 4lb box I had to order the turkey in again, & got him started back on it right away. One meal later he was happier and no more gassy discomfort. Plus he was much happier to eat again. I think the duck is a good diet, but maybe the beans (or a combination of ingredients) were difficult on my dogs stomach. After a week on THK he had noticeable changes. He is much leaner, thinner, and has been able to easily build lots of muscle. He hasn't looked this good in years. … more

  • Great for sensitive dog

    By on

The food has been working better for my Frenchie than the prescription limited ingredient food. I’d say the only downsides are cost and it is messy. Firmer stool and his skin and coat look great too. He isn’t picky with food but gobbles it up and seems to like it.

  • Dog loves it!

    By on

Making your own raw diet food at home is both time consuming and a bit of a crap shoot that you've gotten the proper nutrients included. This solves both problems. It takes about 15 minutes to fully re-hydrate. If you don't wait that long the chunks tend to pass straight through the dog. My pup loves the stuff - dances on her earlobes until it finally makes it into her dish and her coat, skin and energy level are all superb.
