This dehydrated dog food will expand after you add water to it so a 10 lb box equals 29 lbs of fresh food. To serve, simply add protein, warm water, wait 3 minutes, and serve for a fresh, wholesome and delicious meal!
If your dog has never tried our foods before, we recommend starting out slowly. Over a period of 1 to 2 weeks or so, start by adding just a small amount of the Honest Kitchen (with water added) into your dogs current meals. Gradually increase the amount of the Honest Kitchen while decreasing the amount of your dogs original diet.
The Honest Kitchen may be mixed in with your dogs current dry kibble, canned, raw, etc. However, we do not suggest adding in other extra ingredients during the transition if you can avoid it, especially if your pups system is very sensitive. After youve successfully transitioned your dog to the new food, perhaps after 2-4 weeks or so, and they are doing well, then you may consider adding in extra ingredients or introducing another honest kitchen recipe, etc.
I like this mix it's a good blend. It's a little bit of a pastier texture compared to some other mixes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing since the oats being powdered doesn't cause hacking for my pup. I'd buy it again if I wasn't able to get something else or was trying to save a few bucks.
I love the ingredients in this recipe the most. Super happy with the superfoods in it and no potatoes! I can't afford to do just this so I instead use a couple tablespoons mixed with water as a topper/booster on my dogs kibble once a day and they love it!
My dog loves the food. We switched him to Honest kitchen after we adopted him. His poops are perfect. This base mix is good. I mix in my own protein. He loves it.
While this may be a good product for some dogs, it is not for mine. I did a gradual introduction of this food to my wired hair dachshund. A week in his head, shaking started getting worse. I top dressed 80%raw meat, 10% bone and 10% organ meat.
I will start by saying that my dog likes this food, it is easy to prepare, and she has had no G.I. upset. That said, the nutritional information on the box is for the base mix only and therefore the guaranteed analysis is not an accurate reflection on the final product we feed our dogs. For medical reasons I am careful on the percent of my dog’s diet that is protein vs fat vs carbohydrates but it is impossible to calculate it. I contacted the company (multiple times) and understandably, they can’t give an accurate guaranteed analysis for once the protein is added since different proteins will yield different results. However, I asked for the data they have from their own testing so I could get a ballpark estimate on the guaranteed analysis and they refuse to give me that data. They presumably did testing on this product before rolling it out and I am very concerned with the refusal to share data (or alternatively, they didn’t do testing, which is equally as bad). I am just sharing this as a word of caution for anybody who takes pet nutrition seriously. Their lack of candor and willingness to share data makes me concerned about the company overall. I have asked for my concerns to be escalated to their nutrition and product teams and will post an update if I get the data I requested.
I stew or steam sweet potato chunks, butternut squash chunks, and cranberries in low-salt beef or chicken broth, then when it cools I mix the Base Mix into it. Lots of good stuff in there!!
I combine this with some ground yak I got from a local rancher....the ground meat has meat, organs, and bones pre-ground; this base mix provides everything else!
We usually use the grain free base mix, but it’s been out of stock everywhere - so we tried this one - doggo loves this one just as much! Thanks chewy and thanks Honest Kitchen!
This product is a wonderful addition to our pups food. We mix it with kibble to ensure they're getting the full nutrition they need. It helps our lab stay regular, which is a major help at keeping her tummy happy.
I like the healthy idea of having the fruit and vegetables already prepared and adding instantly to the existing food I use
