Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day.

Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

    Too sticky and gummy

By Gatos on Mar 13, 2021

Sorry, but all my cats hate this food. I thought it would have a meatier texture but instead it is very gummy and sticks together too much. I fed it to my inside cats and my outside ferals and both had the same no interest.

    Not even the ferals

    By RMG5 on Nov 3, 2020

I purchased several cases of this food in hopes that at least one of my cats would like it (I have 6); but unfortunately not even the feral cats will eat it. I have given the food to a shelter. One star only because its required. Maybe they will have better luck.

    Old Food- Not Good

By LLMM on Nov 1, 2019

Hound & Gatos stopped production. I have 2 cases of bad food now that I can’t use. My cat pukes every single day again. This food made him better but I’m convinced this food is bad. I’m going to call to ask for a credit. We will see...

    Not a huge fan...

    By Olive123 on Oct 10, 2018

Love Hounds and Gatos, love the ingredients in this formula. My cats have had the turkey and chicken flavors before and like them. They are not fans of this formula. Of my 10, some eat it, some pick at it, some turn up their noses. I have had to add a sprinkle of dry to their bowls whenever they get this so that they will all reliably eat enough to get them through to their next meal.

    By 2Cats on Dec 17, 2018

I gave it a 3 because I liked the ingredients. My brat cats didn't eat it however.

    Hungry Boy likes this!

    By Catmom on Mar 21, 2018 top250Contributor

This one is called original Paleolithic, so maybe my hungry boy is harkening back to his ancestral roots. I don’t know what it is but he does like this one. Mind you he’s not terribly picky. There are very few foods that I have ever put in front of him that he doesn’t like. He does like this one so weve got no problem here. Another good, healthy food without junk food without fillers.

Can't get them to eat it

By Heather on Apr 27, 2018

I'm sorry to say this was terribly unpopular with my three cats. I gave a can to my coworker to try with her cat, and he hated it as well. It has a very jelly-like texture.

    My Boys Don't Like Paleo

By Monique on Feb 6, 2018

Turns out my boys do not like the Paleo Diet. I'd gotten another flavor of the Hounds & Gatos before and they liked it at first, but started to get tired of it, so I figured I'd switch it up. Unfortunately, I made the wrong choice. It just wasn't a good match for my boys.

    Cats seem to like it

By KitzyKat on Apr 13, 2018

My cats are really finicky eaters. I have to switch up the type of food often. As of now, they seem to like this one.

Trying to go raw but my two seniors won’t ever completely transition. This, mixed with Friskies pate in a variety of flavors, is working to give them a healthier balance. I also toss in a powdered, blitzed bit of their old kibble. Especially for the younger (14 yr old) carb addicted one. Aaah. Senior kitties...
