Following daily requirements below, mix Hound & Gatos in gradually larger proportions to your cat's current diet for the first five to seven days, until you're feeding 100% of the new food. Be sure to have a bowl of fresh water available at all times.
Gradually transition your pet to any new food over the course of 7-14 days to help avoid the digestive upset that abrupt changes in diet can cause. If your pet tends to be on the sensitive side, it may be best to take a little extra time. 1. Start by feeding your pet a mix of 25% new food and 75% old food for the first few days. 2. Then, increase the amount of new food to about 50% and feed that half-and-half mix for a few days. 3. Proceed to feeding 75% new food/25% old food for the next few days. 4. Complete the transition by feeding just the new food on its own.
We need to find a new turkey kibble since our "go-to" food has been discontinued by the manufacturer. The Hound&Gatos Turkey kibble with limited ingredients and single protein seemed like a good choice. We attempted a gradual introduction to help acclimate the kitties to the new food, but neither of our cats will go near the their bowls when there is the tiniest bit of the new turkey HG food mixed in. The food has an odd chemical or artificial flavor smell. Perhaps that a is what my kitties are rejecting it.
My cat is not a picky eater, I have never come across a food that she won’t eat until now. She has digestive issues so I have tried to find foods that work for her cause everything that does seems to be discontinued. This was a major fail.
My not picky eaters do not like this food. My cats have never turned their noses up at any food. However, both refuse to eat this one.
I loved the ingredient list and was sure it would work for us but the cat thought otherwise. I threw out the bag.
After a long search of looking for grain free, no chicken kibble, I stumbled upon this. I thought perfect meets our needs. I opened the bag and poured it in the bowl for my babies, they came running but every time they smelled the bowl they would jerk back and wince. I decided to smell it myself and noticed that it does have a rancid chemical smell to it. So help Chewy, any other grain free, no chicken kibble out there?
My kitty loves Hounds and Gatos Turkey and I re-ordered a bag at the end of July and it arrived in August. Since I try to keep a stockpile of my cat food due to pandemic supply shortages, I finally opened this bag today and it was full of moths! Granted it is about a month and a half old, but unopened and not expired. I immediately threw out the entire bag before the moths could invade my house. I did contact Chewy to see about a replacement and so they could inform the manufacturer. So we will see. Normally 5 stars from Hendricks (who is weaning off kibble onto a raw diet), but gets a 2 star review today due to the extra protein! Just be sure to check the bags before opening.
I used to feed Hound & Gatos to my cats regularly. But the last few times they either refused to eat it, or threw it up a few minutes after eating it. I've tried canned and dry now. I am sad that it has gone so bad. I don't trust it any more. :(
My kitten eats everything and he won't touch this. Go figure. I trust that he has good taste. I thought the food smelled weird. Maybe it is bad or spoiled?
Although the package was sealed with no visible holes, and the expiration date was July 8, 2023, once I opened the bag I was aware of a strong rancid odor of the food inside. I will not feed this to my cat, nor will I order more dry food from this manufacturer. On a positive note, I have tried three varieties of their canned cat food and they are very good. My cat loves them. (This is no fault of Chewy.)
I wasn't sure what to expect as only one of my three enjoys the wet food in this brand (although younger two are very picky with any pates), but all three were super excited to eat it! It has been weeks and they still gobble it up when fed. I also appreciate the ingredients and being basically just meat with vitamins and minerals.
