Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day.

Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

    Not a huge fan...

    By on

Love Hounds and Gatos, love the ingredients in this formula. My cats have had the turkey and chicken flavors before and like them. They are not fans of this formula. Of my 10, some eat it, some pick at it, some turn up their noses. I have had to add a sprinkle of dry to their bowls whenever they get this so that they will all reliably eat enough to get them through to their next meal.

    Hungry Boy likes this!

    By on Top 250 Contributor

This one is called original Paleolithic, so maybe my hungry boy is harkening back to his ancestral roots. I don’t know what it is but he does like this one. Mind you he’s not terribly picky. There are very few foods that I have ever put in front of him that he doesn’t like. He does like this one so weve got no problem here. Another good, healthy food without junk food without fillers.

Can't get them to eat it

    By on

I'm sorry to say this was terribly unpopular with my three cats. I gave a can to my coworker to try with her cat, and he hated it as well. It has a very jelly-like texture.

    My Boys Don't Like Paleo

    By on

Turns out my boys do not like the Paleo Diet. I'd gotten another flavor of the Hounds & Gatos before and they liked it at first, but started to get tired of it, so I figured I'd switch it up. Unfortunately, I made the wrong choice. It just wasn't a good match for my boys.

    Cats seem to like it

My cats are really finicky eaters. I have to switch up the type of food often. As of now, they seem to like this one.

    Transitional

    By on

Trying to go raw but my two seniors won’t ever completely transition. This, mixed with Friskies pate in a variety of flavors, is working to give them a healthier balance. I also toss in a powdered, blitzed bit of their old kibble. Especially for the younger (14 yr old) carb addicted one. Aaah. Senior kitties...

    Not a favorite

    By on

I gave this 4 stars because it is a great formula but my cats are not crazy about it. They like the Hounds and Gatos rabbit and love the lamb but this one is not a hit. I am just mixing it with the flavors they like to get rid of it. I highly recommend this brand though. It is one of only a handful that I feel comfortable feeding to my cats.

Perhaps They Do Not Like Ruminants?

    By on

Well, I took a gamble on this food being brand-new and review-free when I purchased it. Unfortunately, it was not a gamble well spent. My cats just will not touch this. They love rabbit, they love lamb, they love beef. It may be the pork they do not like? It could also be a texture thing. This food is a bit on the dry side for a pate. I was hoping a little warm water added would help, but that would be too easy, wouldn't it? *heavy sigh* I have purchased a cheaper wet cat food to add to this, in hopes that it won't be a total waste of money and food. We shall see! Although my cats disagree, I personally do recommend this item, because this food is of the finest quality - of that, I have no doubts Well, I took a gamble on this food being brand-new and review-free when I purchased it. Good new formula

    By on

My 3 cats are fans of a couple of formulas of Hound & Gatos and me too because of the simple ingredients so i thought we would give this new one a try. They all seemed to enjoy it and so far no complains. Also no left overs as with other brands that they have tried before so overall is a good thing since one of them is a fussy eater and will snub his nose if the smell is not up to par.
