Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs of body weight per day. Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

Hungry boy likes this. I’m always on the lookout for good healthy different kinds of cat food. I like this one because it’s pork which is different and my cat likes it, so this is a win-win food.

  • From finicky to foodie

    By on

I don't even eat 4-legged mammals!! But I'll feed it to my obligate carnivores. After years of eating turkey or salmon, I tried pork ever since Karl (boy cat), the finicky eater, became a culinary adventurer. Both cats love it.

  • Would not eat

All three of my cats would not eat this food. It will not go to waste since I will feed it to my dog.

  • Fluctuations

Fluctuating prices and formula. Wow H&G used to be half the price! Also the pork is loved by my cats when it looks and smells like roasted pork... not raw, pink hotdogs that my cats won’t touch.

  • Cats Loved it but....

    By on

My one cat is extremely allergic to a lot of foods so finding this was a blessing. Thankfully they both loved it and it didn't increase Frannie's itching. My only problem was that the rims of the cans had a black substance on them. I had to wash all the cans. I notified Chewy and they replaced them (nice of them) but please everyone check any foods you receive, this is not the only brand with which I've had this problem.

This looks and smells like quality food. My cats even ate most of it, so I'll probably buy it again.

  • Excellent choice for my allergic cat, and the others too

    By on

One of my cats is allergic to chicken and we also avoid turkey, which is EXTREMELY annoying when I'm trying to find food for him. Pork has become his favorite protein and Hounds and Gatos Pork has been an excellent food to keep in his rotation. He gobbles it up like an adorable fat kid. The stuff smells delicious, and as other reviewers have said, I almost want to take a bite of it myself. I also love the no nonsense ingredients and the human grade meat. If you're into the hippy-dippy stuff, pork is also a neutral meat, so it won't heat up/inflame a cat's body. My vet has extra certifications in feline nutrition, and she recommends neutral or cooling foods for my allergic guy. • Palatable High Quality Grain Free Food. Yay!

    By on

My guy likes pork, and he has IBD and needs good ingredients from a carageenan free no traditional protein. I have tried various brands of pork and this by far was the winner. It's not as wet as pate usually is so I add about 1/2 a tablespoon to moisten it up some more. Highly recommend!

  • Economical great ingredients!

My cats can be fussy eaters and I have tried many brands of cat food. They seem to like this one. That being said my cats have only been eating about half the recommended daily serving size. My cats look good so no complaints. Not being able to speak to them of course I wonder if it's because they are not wild about it or is it because they are getting what they need with less food. I had to adjust the amount of food accordingly so we don't waste food. I always remind them there's cats starving in China.
