Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs of body weight per day. Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

FAQ

I’m looking for a top - quality food for my pet. What ingredients should I look for on the label?

AA healthy food for your dog or cat offers your pet true nutrition. At Hound & Gatos we believe true nutrition begins with a balanced diet similar to what they would eat in nature: a diet high in protein. The first ingredient on all of our labels is a meat source, such as beef, chicken or fish. Our products are manufactured in the USA. No byproducts, fillers, inferior ingredients, or artificial preservatives are added into our products. Never Carrageenan. Our products are 100% meat 0% grains.

Why is a high - protein diet a balanced diet for my pet?

At Hound & Gatos, we believe pets should be given diets that reflect their diets in the wild, which is why we developed an all - meat diet.

Do you have any organizations that have supported Hound & Gatos?

Yes, 4 years awarded Most Trusted Pet Foods by Truth About Pet Food, 3 years Whole Dog Journal, won all 5 Stars at DogFood Advisor.com, and CatInfo.org.

Will an all - meat diet damage my pet’s kidneys?

Dogs are meat eaters by nature, and their bodies were created to excrete the protein waste in ways that humans and other animals aren’t capable. A healthy pet should have no problem digesting protein - based diets.

My cats did not enjoy this flavor

    By on

After licking to taste it, my cats turned their noses at this flavor. So, I fed it to my neighborhood feral colony. I did manage to watch them for a while and noticed that some would plow right into the food and some would reluctantly eat it. This was outside the usual feral colony social order behavior. I'm very disappointed by this but cats are finicky animals.

    Cat states it's delish

    By on

This is the third variety of Hound and Gatos I have tried, and switching to this brand of food has nearly eliminated my cat's irritable bowel symptoms. Same is true for this salmon flavor. He gobbles this food and begs for more. I find this variety too soupy, but other than that, if my cat is happy I am happy.

    SALMON RECIPE CHANGED :(

    By on

A couple of years ago I worked for months to transition out cat from unhealthy grocery store can food to better, healthy food.... we tried many different brands, most were a no-go. I did alot of research for the most healthiest brand and found Hounds and Gatos was a top contender. Finally, a food our cat loved! For years he enjoyed most of their varieties and we witnessed wonderful improved health. Up until recently, salmon WAS a favorite....but the recipe changed a few months ago and the new formula is definitely not the same. Our cat refuses to touch the new formula salmon. BUT he still loves the pork, lamb, chicken, and mix and eats these daily. Cat wont touch it!

    By on

I was so hoping for better results! We have been struggling to find the right food for my 3 yr old cat who suddenly cannot tolerate dry food; can only eat wet food. I was looking for top quality, pure ingredients and was referred to Hound & Gatos. Now my boy LOVES salmon but will not touch this. He can starve all day and will only take a few licks. So disappointed.

    Great cat hypoallergenic food

    By on

My cats didn't like it as much as the other flavors I've tried. Still they eat it. My cat has 50 different food allergies has not thrown up once since being on Hound and Gato, her eyes are so bright, she is more active and very talkative with me( instead of sleeping all the time)

    Quality food

This smells like human grade tuna with the perfect consistency. We switched from Fromm since they're no longer available on Chewy and I'm glad I did. Single source protein with absolutely no filler.

My very picky cat likes this!

    By on

My cat is allergic to chicken and grain. I have tried EVERY food on the market. Thank goodness he likes this or I would be out of options! I know that every cat has his particular taste, but I also like that this is a limited ingredient food and this is MADE IN THE USA which is very important to me for animal safety.

    Not Good

    By on

Very oily and Hound and Gatos changed the formula. I wrote and called the company. I gave them lot info and they refused to acknowledge the change. The product has an awful smell - like a very ripe imported cheese - and there is a color change - beige. My cat won't approach the plate. I can't recommend the product.

Good ingredients but my cats don't like it

    By on

Several of my cats really like the Chicken Hounds and Gatos so I decided to try another flavor. My cats would not eat the salmon even though they like fish but maybe your cat will like it. It has a very soupy texture and is not a firm pate. I cautiously recommend this only because Hounds and Gatos seems to use good quality ingredients that are appropriate for cats. I like that Hounds and Gatos doesn't put vegetables, fruits, lentils, etc. in their cat food. So many "premium" brands use those cheaper ingredients and market it as if it is healthy for cats even tho they know that cats don't have the enzymes to use legumes, fruits, veggies. I also like that there is no carrageenan. However, healthier Several of my cats really like the Chicken Hounds and Gatos so I decided to try another flavor.
