Feeding Instructions

Adult: Feed 3/4 - 1 1/4 cans per 15 lbs of body weight per day.

Puppy: Feed up to twice the Adult amount per day.

Gestation and Lactation: Feed up to 3 times the Adult amount per day.

Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your dog. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion. Fresh water should be available at all times.

Transition Instructions

A slow transition will be the easiest. Plan for the process to take about a week. Days 1 and 2, mix 25% of the new food in with the old food. If the change is tolerated well, increase the transition to 50% new food. Continue for a few days then increase the new food to 75%, then 100% after a couple more days. Be sure to mix the “old” food with Hound & Gatos – don’t offer each food separately. If transitioning from kibble, you can just add the can as a topper to the kibble. If loose stools occur, keep the ratio of old/new food at the current ratio for a couple of days until the stools firm back up.

FAQ

I’m looking for a top - quality food for my pet. What ingredients should I look for on the label?

AA healthy food for your dog or cat offers your pet true nutrition. At Hound & Gatos we believe true nutrition begins with a balanced diet similar to what they would eat in nature: a diet high in protein. The first ingredient on all of our labels is a meat source, such as beef, chicken or fish. Our products are manufactured in the USA. No byproducts, fillers, inferior ingredients, or artificial preservatives are added into our products. Never Carrageenan. Our products are 100% meat 0% grains.

Why is a high - protein diet a balanced diet for my pet?

At Hound & Gatos, we believe pets should be given diets that reflect their diets in the wild, which is why we developed an all - meat diet.

Do you have any organizations that have supported Hound & Gatos?

Yes, 4 years awarded Most Trusted Pet Foods by Truth About Pet Food, 3 years Whole Dog Journal, won all 5 Stars at DogFood Advisor.com, and CatInfo.org.

Will an all - meat diet damage my pet’s kidneys?

Dogs are meat eaters by nature, and their bodies were created to excrete the protein waste in ways that humans and other animals aren’t capable. A healthy pet should have no problem digesting protein - based diets.

My German Shepherds love the Salmon as well as other flavors

    By on

I have been feeding Hound & Gatos to my German Shepherds for years. They get it mixed with their dry food and always clean their dishes twice a day.

    Great Dog Food!

    By on

My dog loves this canned dog food. Her coat is thicker and shinier since she started eating it some time ago. I mix it with Nature's Variety Instint Limited Ingredient kibble. She'd had to be on prescription dog food, which she'd stopped eating and started losing weight. Then I discovered Hound & Gatos and she's gotten off prescrip food and is doing great!

I chose because of 5 star rating on Dogfood Advisor

    By on

and I'm so glad I ignored a couple of the less favorable reviews -- the texture, while a bit soft - which would be expected as it is simply meat/fluid for processing is not objectionable - and the fragrance is every bit as good as a can of Red Salmon that I purchase for our own consumption. I feed a mammal/fish/fowl rotational diet and it is very difficult to find a fish that is just that -- fish! supplements not withstanding! Plus my dogs love it -- and so do I!

    Nothing but Salmon

    By on

I've fed H&G for years. My dogs love it and do really well on most flavors (one has chicken allergy). I'm not sure why people are complaining about the Salmon texture. It's clearly all fish and has fish pieces visible. As a topper, the texture makes it supper easy to mix evenly into kibble. Also, this is a quality canned dog food which IMO means everything!

My (two) dogs absolutely love this food. I give them 5 different varieties in the course of a month and this is one they devour as quickly as possible.

    I like this brand but

    By on Top 25 Contributor

My dogs definitely do not seem to eat this as enthusiastically as they have eaten other canned foods in the past, or even their kibble, I also at least here on Chewy don't see peas mentioned in the ingredient list but there is definitely peas in the food when you dish it out

    great food

Dogs love anything fishy and this fits the bill. Great food, but has a gel consitency like an aspic.

    Definitely canned salmon

    By on Top 250 Contributor

This product has a different texture than most "pate" canned foods. More moisture, but obviously a lot of fish. My dobes loved the flavor, but their digestive tract did not get used to the food, even with small amounts added over several days. I have used the H & G beef flavor, and it digested much better. Both foods stick to the side of the can after refrigeration, making is somewhat difficult to get all the food out. I love the concept of this food, but will probably take it out of my rotation.

    Min pins love it!

    By on

My dogs have allergies and on fish diet. They have done great on this food. The smell is strong but tolerable. The food stays moist even after refrigerating compared to some others that turn hard and gelatined.

    By on

I can tell there is a lot of Salmon in this dog food because it really smells like salmon. The dogs love it and have been doing great on it. I have two Shih Tzu's one 11.5 and one 1 year the baby has really a sensitive stomach and she has been doing great on this dog food.
