Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day. Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

    Good quality

Hound and Gatos has been great for my Egyptian Mau. He’s 9 and I’ve been feeding it to him since he was around 5.

    Changed Formula in late 2017

    By on

My cats loved this food until they changed the formula around October last year. It was a completely different consistency and my cats both went from licking their dishes clean to barely eating any of it. After trying several other flavors and brands their new pick is Triumph trout flavor. It's much less expensive, so that's a win.

A little SMELLY, but who am I say say; I'm not a cat

    By on Top 500 Contributor

Looking for another good alternative to add to what my 2 cats are already eating. They need variety not only for variety's sake, but to have different types of proteins, vitamins and minerals from different sources. Bottom line is that they devour it.

Good for a change now and then

    By on

This wouldn't work on a daily basis because he much prefers the chicken over the trout but it's good for every once in a while. He doesn't lick the bowl clean but eats most of it and you just can't find better ingredients. I'm a big fan of Hound & Gatos foods and am very pleased Chewy carries them. I will continue to purchase the trout, just not as often.

    Texture too runny

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

Too runny. Sometimes the ferals have eaten it but few and far between, probably our pudgy alpha male pigging out. It's something in-between pate and sauce, quite pale which would be fine if any of my cats would touch it. Smell wise not too strong, but that's never bothered my cats with other brands before so I don't think that's it. I read 'pate' and having gone through the other flavors of Hound & Gatos, chicken, lamb, salmon, I figured I should try one more before giving them a miss. Did not expect the runny texture and I don't think my cats did either. I really, really like the ingredients of H&G food but sadly if my cats or ferals won't eat it, the best ingredients in the won't Too runny. My hubby rarely puts the food out and even he tells me not to buy this brand since none of our brood likes it, which is saying something. Might try the brand again at some point as price and ingredients are good. … more

    Stinky but kitten loves it.

    By on

I brought home a 2 1/2 month old kitten from the shelter he was eating a lousy wet food. I did some research and this was listed as very good. I had one half can of the nasty stuff and so I put a scoop of this separate incase he wouldn't eat it. To my surprise he went right for Hounds and Gatos and left the Nasty stuff. Some of it is really mushy and stinky but he likes that the best. I like that it has high meat content but would like to know if the meat is human grade. I contacted the manufacture and didn't get a straight answer

    All three like it!

    By on

I am own by two Main Coons and an Abysinian. They are on a wet-only diet and it is really hard to find healthy food all three like or will even consider eating. On top of that, many foods are not accepted by my Abby stomach even if he likes a taste. Hounds and Gatos makes my day! Ziwipeak beaf is the other one. We only tried Trout formula but will also go for chicken next time.

    Finicky to the Extreme

    By on

This grain-free formula got very good reviews as far as nutritional content and its lack of questionable by-products, etc. However, my ultra-particular eight-year-old cat, Pip, would starve before he would eat this. Fortunately, Chewy is a fantastic company and cheerfully provided a refund, only asking that I donate the remaining cans (most of the case) to a local shelter or friend with a less finickly feline. Thanks, Chewy!!
