Feeding Instructions

For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day.

Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion.

Transition Instructions

If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.

Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

  • Cat says 'no good'

    By on

Tried giving this to my cat, he loves most meat products, he would not touch this stuff. Also the smell is not very pleasant and there is a lot of a gel like substance covering the meat as well. I now have a full case I wish I could return because my cat will not eat it at all. I would not recommend purchasing this food.

  • Glad for this choice.

This food seems to have helped my cat with IBD and I love that it is cheaper than what I was previously buying. One of my cats won't eat it but luckily my IBD cat will.

  • Both cats love it!

I bought this food for our new cat because he had a UTI and he absolutely loves it! Even my 5 year old resident cat who what's only eaten dry and never interested, has taken a liking to it and will eat a bit each day! Chewy is always prompt with sending items I order too!

  • Jelly Like Substance

    By on

I like the majority of the ingredients on this food, however, the downside to this food is the jelly like substance (most likely a preservative). I feel like there is way too much of it and I do not feel comfortable feeding it to my cats that eat mostly a fortified raw meat diet. Although my cats like the food, I do not recommend this formula. The chicken has the jelly like substance as well , but this one for some reason has more of it.

  • Cats will not touch

    By on

Both of my cats really like the chicken so I ordered the turkey, but they turn their noses up at this. Not sure why, as it appears the same consistency. Will not order this flavor again.

  • Great high protein food if your cat will eat it

    By on

If my cats would eat this flavor, it would get five stars. But they really don't like the turkey. Trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the case...

  • Cats do not like this Turkey flavor

    By on

I have 3 cats that I have been feeding HG Chicken & Liver flavor, which they absolutely love and always lick their bowls clean. I decided to try the Turkey flavor but to my surprise, none of the cats liked it. I even did the slow introduction with their current food. They're the type of cats that even anything and everything, but walked away from this one. They do enjoy turkey flavored food; I had them on Red Barn's turkey pate and Nature's Variety turkey flavor as well. Not sure what to do with these now. 2 Stars for the great ingredients and 98% protein though.

  • Cats love this flavor

    By on

I gave this a shot after a different brand my cats loved went under and I couldn't get it any more. This is apparently a perfect replacement according to my cats reactions! Have tried a few other H&G flavors, but this seems to be the winner so far.

  • They love it

    By on

I have six cats and have recently switched to this food. My cats love it. I love that has no added gums for thickeners. Limited ingredients. I see it is temporarily out of stock. I am going to try the chicken flavor and fingers crossed they will like that flavor also. Hoping turkey returns to stock soon!

  • Deemed inedible by the entire crew

My indoor crew snubbed this completely, tried to feed it to my less picky outdoor semi feral gang and they too give it all paws down.
