The back length should be measured from the withers (not the collar) to the base of the tail, while the dog is standing in normal position.
The neckline measurement should be taken at the base of the neck, this being the widest point of the neck. The neckline of an overall can be larger than the circumference of the dog's neck, as it can be adjusted to fit a smaller neck.
The chest measurement should be taken at the widest point of the chest, from behind the front legs. To ensure sufficient freedom of movement, the chest of an overall should be 2-8 inches wider than the dog's chest.
The front leg length should be measured from the bottom of the rib cage along the inner side of the leg to the wrist bone. The legs of an overall are of an appropriate length when they reach down to the dog's forearms.

Donated wrong size to shelter or an older pittie. Got smaller size but still a bit too big even per measurement. My dog has gotten out of the back legs three times now. Even when I pull the drawstrings. Looks good quality and I keeps him warm if only he would keep it on!
Will need to size up one or two because of length. Not thrilled but loyal to Hurtta.
My golden doodle has had multiple injuries and surgeries to her hind knees, so I was looking for a coat with legs to protect her knees during cold weather. This coat has been ideal, easy enough to put on, fits well and easy for her to wear. Definitely a great help to allow her to get out for walks in the cold without hurting her impaired knees.
I measured my dog according to the instructions and he fits solidly within the measurements for 16 m. When the package arrived (very quickly, thanks Chewy!), the 16m wouldn’t even zip up it’s so small. The packaging had a breed size indicator that would put him closer to a size 20m. Posting it here in case it’s helpful to others.
Only after a few wears, the zipper went out. There is also a pretty bad tear in the seam from normal, indoor use.
It seems very warm as an under layer. Its also very adjustable which is nice. It runs a little big I think But not the easiest thing in the world to put on. Especially on a fidgety younger dog. I was a bit confused & it took me a good 20 mins to get on her. The zipper is in the top of the dog which makes it difficult to keep each leg in the sleeve as your putting the other 4 legs in. Maybe I just need to get used to it & use it a few more times. The back legs seem like they may come loose & she'll step on them. I think I got a size too big but she's still young 1.5yrs so there is room to grow. Great as an underlayer. I would recommend if your dog can stand still while you figure it out & put each foot in. The dog seems comfortable in it & it's also stretchy
I read some reviews so I sized up when I ordered and still the fit is tight. The zipper as mentioned in another review, pulls apart. This is thye second item I've bought that is Hurtta brand that did not fit properly after following the sizing instructions.
My dog is a large whippet - 40 lbs, 22" long from withers, 26" chest. I ordered a 22L after reading other reviews. Despite the adjustment strings, it did not solve the sizing issue on his front half (but did make for a perfect fit for the waist). When my dog runs, it does not seem to bother him or affect his gait. The suit is thin, but seems to do an incredible job at trapping body heat. The material feels comfortable and rejects debris. My favorite aspect of the design is the back zipper, which allows for easy fitting and removal - no more uncomfortable gymnastics for the dog! So while I don't like how it looks, it allows him to do all the things dogs should be able to do and keeps him sufficiently warm while he does! Two hard feats for clothing to accomplish for the common sighthound.
Put it on my 7 pound dog over a 2 week period to wear as a layer and zipper split last time he wore it. Was able to pull down but the zipper slider body and pull tab just zipped off and now it wont zip since I cant put it back together.
My girl is aging and has been an athlete all her life. I put this on her for a few hours each day and it seems to keep her muscles warm and happy. Great product
