Hurtta Expedition Insulated Dog Parka

This is such a great parka!! I highly recommend it. Hurtta is known for their excellent quality dog gear and this coat does not disappoint. One person mentioned: "It's the North Face of dog coats" and I totally agree!! I was concerned about sizing because my standard English Bull Terrier girl is in-between sizes at a length of 21" neck base to tail base, so I ordered the 20" and the 22". She is not the typical wide, bulky Bully, but more on the slender side for her age (1.5yo). The 20" fit PERFECTLY, so I would say the coat runs slightly large. I even cinched the back up a bit for her. I love that the coat has 4 points of adjustment (neck base, top of neck gaiter, tail base and mid torso strap This is such a great parka!! I bought this for my 33 lb border collie dog. We recently moved from a very warm climate to a colder climate and I could see her getting a little cold on walks and not wanting to go outside. I read all of the reviews before purchasing and decided to purchase one size down from what my dog measures out to be (she measures 20" back length, you can see all her measurements at the end of my post). I ended up ordering the size 18 in this coat and I think it fits her perfectly! The temperature has been around 40 degrees when we walk in the afternoon and we tried walking with it and she seemed very comfortable. The lining is soft and the outer shell seems to be made of a warm, durable fabric. I don't I bought this for my 33 lb border collie dog. Kept her body warm & dry in heavy snow, sleet, and rain, and temps as low as 20F--no shivering or pick me ups. FIT (see photos): She is 5 months old, weighs 9 lbs, and measures 12in long (withers to tail), neck 10in, chest 16in. We bought sizes 10 and 12, since reviews said it runs large. The 12 was a little long, but we were able to cinch the length so it doesn't touch her tail. The hole to clip her leash to her harness is almost halfway down her back. Her harness clip is up between her shoulders, so it is tricky to attach her leash with the jacket on. DECISION: In the end, we opted to keep the 12 because it fits OK now but will fit better if she continues to grow--we're expecting her to be ~12-13 lbs. … more

We long this jacket! My dog can't handle the cold due to his short coat. We have tried various jackets and none seemed to keep him warm AND dry. This jacket has successfully kept him warm and dry for several days playing in the snow! After reading the reviews I decided to go down a size.... my pup is 46 lbs and measured 20 inches down his back, so i ordered an 18in. It fits him fine and works the way it is supposed to, it is just a little short. Id reccommened just going with the exact size you measure. The pirce is a little steep but totally worth it.

I especially like that the design provides coverage for the thighs (like a horse blanket) but has a recess for the tail. I was able to get this coat on sale, and thought it was well-worth the sale price. However, sale prices and availability of the many different sizes and colors changes DAILY on chewy.com. I found this to be a little frustrating and unusual. I would suggest checking the site daily before purchasing (it seems that at any random time, different sizes are either full-priced or 40% off). This is one of *the* best dog coats we've ever invested in! (The other is the Hurtta Extreme Warmer Parka.) It's difficult to find a coat that appropriately fits a Rhodesian Ridgeback, but this one is definitely an exception. Quality construction, brilliant features, super warm, and fits like it was custom made just for my dogs! A quality coat is worth the investment to ensure it lasts for generations, and I'm sure this one will. The 70cm/28" fits our 100# boy perfectly and is just slightly long on our 78-80# girls (the 65cm/26" is probably more ideal for them, but I actually like the additional length/rump coverage of the 28"). A smaller (65-70#) RR could potentially fit into a 60cm/24". This This is one of *the* best dog coats we've ever invested in! (The other is the Hurtta Extreme Warmer Parka.) Really weird sizing and I'm bummed about it! I first bought the Hurtta extreme warmer and the "butt" area was just really big and hung down. So I bought my two dogs the expedition parka since it looked like a better fit in photos. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying an 18" xs instead of just the 18", since the 18" seemed too big. The xs is now too small for my pup. My other dog got the 28" size, I followed the sizing chart and it is still very big on him. The chest part goes way too far down and almost touches his privates. These jackets seem SO well made and I got them for half price from Chewy, so I will try them out and see how they fit while my dogs are hiking, or see if I can make Really weird sizing and I'm bummed about it! It is so hard to find a long skinny jacket and this Hurtta coat is perfect for our rescue chiweenie, Betty. I liked the Buckthorn (orange) as it's bright for dull winter days, i was hesitant to go with a light color for getting dirty but have used it and it isn't bad when the weather is so cold, i try and pick her up over slushy areas to keep the underpart clean. I have decided to get a charcoal gray of the same coat as my husband said it wouldn't hurt to have 2 coats. I have looked far and wide for the right coat and this covers the belly also which alot of blanket variety coats do not cover underneath where it's needed most. WOW! I am exceedingly surprised at how much I love this jacket. My AmStaff and I just moved to Virginia from California, and even though we don’t live in a place that gets a ton of snow, it HAS snowed since we’ve been here (twice in 3 months). So I read all of the reviews on a bunch of different jackets, and decided on this one. I’m so glad I did! This keeps my girl nice and toasty and she doesn’t hesitate to go outside anymore (booties also help). I ordered a size 26 considering that was her back measurement and it fist perfectly! 10/10 would recommend!

Penny loves her new coat. Quality material, easy to put on, keeps her nice and warm during winter walks in forest. Measurements are back length 15”, neck 16”, chest 24”. Size 16 fits nice. A little long on back but adjusts to fit. She doesn’t like the leg straps so we leave them off. Great parka...highly recommend.
