A great cold weather jacket
I have four coats (weather dependent) that I use on my GSP for our daily hike on the mountain trails behind my house during the fall/winter/spring. This is the jacket I put on him when the temps drop into the teens (degree f) or colder. It covers his chest and part of his belly while the drape on the sides protects his haunches when the wind is blowing. Also the incorporated insulated neck and snood allows me to cover his neck, head and ears as needed. A couple things I don’t like is I am not a huge fan of the barrel strap which allows the jacket to twist on his back … so the leg loops are definitely required to be used to keep the jacket centered… but even then I need to straighten it out several times each hike (our hikes are 2 to 2 1/2 hours each day). Maybe a side snap system (similar to the Ruff Wear coats I also use) could be incorporated along with the barrel strap to maybe fix this issue. Also if he he is running around in deep snow the chest area can collect snow so I will unsnap him occasionally to clear any snow that he collected during his romp through the deep forest snow. This coat is very well made and after paying for and trying out too many other dog jacket brands, I prefer and will only recommend either Huerta or Ruff Wear.
Well worth it! SO warm!
We live in southeast idaho and it gets very very cold. After purchasing this dog coat I have had so much peace of mind knowing that he is much warmer even when he is outside since he refuses to go into the garage to keep warm during the day. The dog coat is very spacious and comfortable I have put my hands underneath the coat while we have been outside and it is perfectly warm in there. Well worth the price tag honestly!
amazing coat for short haired dogs
Truly an exceptional coat. Our little boxer babe is smaller than we anticipated so the coat is a bit too large, but it works perfectly as a coat as well as a blanket for her when we do our outdoor activities. She screams when she’s outside until we put it on her- then she happy as a clam at high tide. Throw it in the dryer to help remove extra hair!
Expedition jacket vía Hurtta
I’m Sooki- I absolutely love my new jacket. My mum said if she had known of Hurtta, she would have gotten it for me years ago. I get cold quickly so this jacket works great. When I 1st tried it on, I began to prance (I like to prance when happy)- it’s warm, soft comfy material, it covers my underbelly completely, I run without restrictions, I look great in this beet color, the elastic pulls help so the wind gust don’t crawl into my neck area (I live in the Windy City) and it’s water resistant. Thanks Chewy for carrying Hurtta, for crazy fast delivery and thanks Hurtta for caring about us bigger/taller gals!!
Worth the money!
I was hesitant to spend so much money on a dog coat, but Hurtta was highly recommended by my dog trainer friends. The coat is very warm, high quality, easy to take on & off, works with all my harnesses, and cleans up nicely. I'm really pleased and most importantly my dog is much more comfortable on our winter adventures. The sizing is a bit tricky. My dog is slim but I really wanted the coat to cover her entire back so the fit is a bit bulky in places. However there are some straps that can be tightened so it doesn't slow her down or impact her movement at all. She's 40 lbs and I ordered a 22in for reference.
Pup is more winter ready than us!
Our dog is now very prepared for upper Midwest winters! This coat is warm and still allows a lot of active movement. We've tried a lot of products on our mutt that don't work because of her weird size and shape, but this coat fit perfectly because of the design. I love the strap around the waist that secures the coat. That feature allows sizing to be more flexible. The material feels very thick and well made. There's a hole in the back for leashes. Other coats we've had flip up at the tail in the wind, but this one has straps that go under the legs, though we haven't used them yet. I also really appreciated the detailed sizing chart so we got sizing right on the first try. I do wish this coat went up over her ears, but I think the extreme weather version (also sold on chewy as of Dec 2021) does cover the ears. Overall, I think Hurtta nailed this design so it fits as many breeds as possible. Our dog is 70 pounds, short haired, and very tall and large chested (Great Dane mix with some Australian shepherd and hound).
Do you know what it’s like, to go from Florida to Michigan winters? Well, I do! Thank goodness my pet parents found this awesome Hurtta Insulated Parka. I actually don’t mind going outside now and it is a breeze to put on and take off too. My parents say they love the quality and how well it fits me. A Big “Woof” out to Hurtta, and of course Chewy for sending it to me so quickly. Maxx
This coat is expensive but so worth it. It fits perfectly...definitely go with the length measurement. Excellent design, easy to get on and off, easy to walk or play, and keeps her very warm. Just after it came, we had a cold snap with sub-zero temps, and since my Mountain Dog is a poodle mix, she has no undercoat, and her fur gets matted so needs to be cut short. She loves the snow and with this coat, I am comfortable letting her frolic in the frigid weather. Highly recommend!
We have a small (23lb.) dog with no undercoat . He loves to be outside running and playing, but starts shaking almost immediately in upstate NY winter weather . This coat is great . High quality, snow and rain are repelled. The buckle, although plastic, is heavy duty and clasps easily. So easy to put on and doesn’t really inhibit dogs running or jumping. Also, other dogs can’t really remove the coat during play as the clasp keeps it on securely. Very happy with this purchase and would highly suggest this coat !
This is our third Hurtta jacket for our Basenji and hands down, they are the best jackets for any weather condition, particularly cold/winter/rain. I love this jacket because it well insulated and waterproof, so playing in the snow does not get him soaking wet. Just like every Hurtta jacket, the fit is superb, highly adjustable and the quality of materials used is top notch. I can only recommend getting this jacket and yes it is a little more expensive but worth every penny.
