Instant Ocean BIO-Spira Live Nitrifying Bacteria for Aquariums helps prevent new tank syndrome that results in the loss of fish soon after setting up a new aquarium. This fast-acting water conditioner contains a patented mix of live nitrifying bacteria that’s been proven to reduce dangerous ammonia and reduce nitrate levels. New saltwater aquariums usually need time to build an effective biological filter. Until this is done, the aquarium is not ready to handle the elevated ammonia levels caused by fish waste. Instant Ocean BIO-Spira Live Nitrifying Bacteria speeds up this process to make marine aquariums instantly safe for fish. It can also be used after a water change or when adding new fish.

I've cycled many tanks over the years. Had never used this product, so thought I would give it a try. I won't tell you that it's bad, but it has not been very effective for my purposes. Even with well cycled bio-media transferred from an established set up this has not had a noticable difference. Daily tests with API Master Kits shows it's working, but very slowly. More than a week in already with minimal changes.
Love this. It fully cycled my saltwater tank within a week, converting ammonia and nitrites, to ultimately nitrates. Am buying more for water changes and emergencies.
