Keep a healthy underwater environment with Instant Ocean Reef Salt for Aquariums. It contains essential ocean reef elements in concentrations greater than those found in natural seawater with extra calcium to encourage the growth of large and small polyp stony corals as well as coralline algae. This salt provides vital nutrients and extra vitamins help to promote vigorous growth and survival of corals, anemones and other invertebrates. It also neutralizes traces of heavy metals often present in tap water. Maintain your aquarium and watch it flourish with Instant Ocean Reef Salt.

HAZARDS TO HUMANS: Reef Crystals is not for human consumption. Keep out of reach of children. Contact in dry form may cause skin or eye irritation. In case of contact, completely flush skin or eye(s) with cool water and seek medical attention.
Recommended Specific Gravity Range: 1.020-1.026 at 77°F. NOTE: 1.4 lbs of Reef Crystals is formulated to create 5 gallons of saltwater at a specific gravity of 1.021.
USAGE NOTE: NEVER mix salt in an aquarium containing animals.
In New Aquariums: Transfer animals to the aquarium AFTER salt is completely mixed and aerated and specific gravity has been adjusted.
Always add the salt mix to the water, not the other way around. Adding water to the salt mix briefly creates a highly concentrated solution that can lead to precipitation of some ingredients. Always allow newly mixed salt water to circulate with a powerhead or airstone at least overnight before use. This allows the carbon dioxide in the aquarium water to reach equilibrium with the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which normalizes pH. It also adds oxygen.
Instant Ocean® is formulated to provide a solution with levels of calcium and magnesium found in natural seawater (NSW), assuming you use purified water to dissolve the sea salt. Tap water most often contains dissolved calcium, magnesium and other minerals that will add to the levels provided by Instant Ocean®. The specific gravity of NSW is typically 1.026 (35 parts per thousand, or ppt, salinity). When dissolved in pure water to a specific gravity of 1.026, Instant Ocean® should provide a solution that has 400 mg/L calcium ion and 1320 mg/L magnesium ion. If Instant Ocean® is dissolved to a lower specific gravity, then these concentrations (and, in fact, the concentration of every other ion) will be proportionately lower.
The most common cause of poor solubility is moisture. Some of the compounds used in sea salts are hygroscopic, meaning they readily and quickly draw moisture from their surroundings. If your sea salt has any “clumps” or hardened sections, then this is a sure sign that moisture has been introduced. Sea salt that has absorbed moisture may dissolve with the addition of aeration. The best way to avoid moisture in your sea salt is to re-seal the container immediately after use.
Instant Ocean® has never contained a dechlorinator or any type of chelator. It is advisable to dechlorinate using a commercially available de-chlorinator when using tap water to dissolve Instant Ocean®.
Instant Ocean® is engineered to closely match natural seawater, and Reef Crystals® is enriched to facilitate the growth of corals and other invertebrates in a reef aquarium.
Make sure you order this product on a seperate order. They shipped this along with other items like a glass heater, hydrometer etc etc all in the same box. All items were not in good shape on arrival. However Chewy made it right. Just a heads up.
I am trying to be advanced aquarist with stony coral. They are growing in this salt. It has high alkalinity so I never do more than 5 or 10% water change. ICP tests using this salt show Lithium and Baroum slightly elevated with no immediate concern but only way to reduce these is with expensive imported German brands.
Great service !! Had it in a couple days, very easy Co to work with
ive used reef crystals in the past and it works well. i just got another bucket from chewy but it looks half full. im going to have to get a scale to weigh it. looking thru the bucket it looks less than half full. not sure why you would use a 5 gallon bucket for 2.5 gal of salt?
The bucket came not boxed and the bucket was nasty dirty. If you take salt out you get dirt all through the salt
Much better than the regular Instant Ocean. Was using IO for years and switched to the IO Reef Crystal and it mixes so much faster and cleaner.
Great product. Will buy again. I recommend this salt for reef tanks. Consistant perameters.
price doubled since last delivery i can see the price going up a few dollars but 35 dollars is crazy
The service and packaging from chewy.com was awesome. The 200 gallon salt box came fully intact and on time. Would definitely reccomend chewy and will purchase in the future. I also setup the automatic delivery just be careful of price it varies wildly.
i purchased bucket salt and some carbon last month in January. and they deliver on 1/20/2022. the bad thing is the deliver guy just tossed my order over the gate onto my driveway. when i open the box, one bucket of salt busted open and i salt all over the box with the carbon. beside that, everything is good and i will continue to shop chewy if i need anything . thank you for the good service and hope next time just put handle with care sticker on the box to prevent same situation happen again in the future.
