The ingredient list is purposefully simple for pets with food sensitivities. It focuses on one animal protein and one vegetable—versus the mix of each you'll find in most pet foods.

SIMPLE AND ESSENTIAL

Sometimes what's not included is just as important as what is. These recipes are made with grass-fed meat or cage-free poultry and always made without grain, dairy, eggs, potato, corn, wheat, soy or artificial ingredients.

Pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece

Pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece

They put the pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece of Instinct Limited Ingredient Diet by tumbling their kibble with crushed, freeze-dried raw—raising the bar in nutrition and taste.

The Pure, Real Nutrition of Raw Is In Everything Instinct Does

Instinct's Responsibility as The Raw Brand

LEAD WITH RAW

It all started with Instinct's raw pet food. Since the beginning, they've led with raw because they know the good it can do. They're rewriting the rules of pet food and championing raw nutrition to bring its superior benefits to all that they do.

KEEP IT REAL

Delicious and nutritious pet food should only use real ingredients. For Instinct, this means all-natural, real meat, fruits and vegetables, with nothing artificial.

MAKE IT SIMPLE

Feeding raw should be simple, and it should easily fit into your everyday routine. Instinct believes raw should be accessible to pet parents so every pet can experience the benefits of raw nutrition.

GIVE BACK

Instinct believes in the power of raw nutrition. It only makes sense to share it. Together with Best Friends Animal Society, they're furthering the no-kill movement and their shared mission of transforming and saving the lives of pets.

MAKE IT BETTER

Instinct has never been afraid to challenge the status quo of pet nutrition. They continuously redefine what better means—always pushing their standards of nutrition to raise the bar in pet food.

Pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece

ONE MILLION MEALS

All pets deserve food that's real, nutrient-rich, grain-free and natural. That's why Instinct provides over one million meals annually to the dogs and cats at Best Friends Animal Society adoption centers nationwide. Because what we feed them can make all the difference. Here "we" refers to the pet parent, not Instinct.

About Instinct

Instinct believes deeply that it's up to them to find a way to make it possible for more people to feed their pets the pure, real nutrition that only comes from raw. They know that if they can get the nutrition of raw into more bowls, they'll transform the lives of more pets. And that's really why they do what they do.

  • All of my cats love this food

    By on

I have three very picky eaters on my hands including a 12 year old with IBD who can only eat grain free food. They were happy with Purina Beyond dry and wet food for about a year, and then out of nowhere, they straight up refused to eat it anymore. I did an extensive search to find a replacement and found this food and all three of them LOVE IT! My 12 year old has put back on weight that he lost, has noticeably higher energy levels, and looks great. I'm so glad I found this food.

  • LID Instinct Turkey

My cats love this food. I believe my 4 year old Calico is chicken intolerant d/t itching and pulling out fur and scooting her rump alot. After eating this food for a few weeks, she is better with all 3. It's very hard to find a dry or wet food without any added chicken. I am definately interested in trying the Rabbit food too; both cats really like the wet food of this LID brand (I also have a 5 mo old kitten). I like to be able to feed them good quality food as I believe it saves money later in vet visits. I would love for Chewy to offer a loyal customer program or something every 3 months for loyal customers, I have been loyal customer for years now as they have great customer service My cats love this food. • My sick cat loves this

    By on

My Maine Coon was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I've tried so many foods I've lost count. But this one he will actually eat. I'm so glad I found this on Chewy's website, since I haven't seen it in stores!

  • The Best Dry

    By on

My guy came from a shelter eating only dry, but then switched him to a combination of moist and dry. First we tried Merrick moist and dry with limited success. Dexter was not thrilled and often would not eat it. Then we switched to Halo dry and moist, and found that he didn't love the spots stew and did like some of the pate's that thy offered. We're still giving him turkey and giblets and turkey and duck. We recently did some research and came across Instinct brand. This brand tops all the others. I'm feeding Dexter Limited ingredient dry turkey formula which he devours and have given him cans of lamb, turkey, and duck which he licks the plate clean. I highly recommend Instinct My guy came from a shelter eating only dry, but then switched him to a combination of moist and dry. First we tried Merrick moist and dry with limited success. • Great alternative

    By on

We have had our one cat on Hypoallergenic Royal Canin for irritable bowels for the past 3 years. All of our cats eat it because it's much easier since we have an automatic feeder and now we have 7 cats. We switched because it's grain free and way less expensive. Everyone loves it and doesn't seem to bother our girl who has bowel issues.

  • favorite kibble

    By on Top 500 Contributor

My adopted cat started on Royal Canin at the shelter, but my friend suggested healthier diet since brewers rice and yeast was the first ingedient. So I found Natures variety instinct by researching, not so expensive like Orijen but acceptable ingredients. We started with chicken meal and later when she developed slight redness/swelling of corner of mouth, I started eliminating many things as trial since I thought it may be an allergy. I liked that this is a limited ingredient product and it seems to be her favorite dry kibble flavor. her bowl is more likely to be emptied and sometimes after eating wet food, she sometimes still wants dry food. • Worked for my allergic cat

    By on

I tried several other limited ingredient brands for my cat who had developed a severe food allergy. This is the only one I saw a significant improvement with. The scabs from her scratching had healed and her fur started growing back within 1-2 weeks of starting this food. Luckily all 4 of my cats like it.

I have a clowder at my house and was feeding them Fromm. Been trying different no grain and finally gave Instinct a try. Not one piece of kibble is left in their bowls. I think I found a winner

  • Instinct - Limited Ingredient Dry cat food

    By on

I've been having a difficult time finding this dry food in the pet stores (good for cats with allergies) - and then, could only get the smaller bag, if at all. SO easy to order this online, set-up for recurring orders, AND be able to get the larger sized bag! Had it the day after I ordered it - better than running all over to various stores trying to find it!

  • This is a great food

    By on

This is a great food, my cats had been on it for months until the recipe change. My female cat has sensitivities that unfortunately make her unable to eat the new recipe. However, for a cat that needs no fish product this is a great recipe!
