Was ok...but I’ll stick with the chicken

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

We normally buy the 21lb bags of the same stuff only in chicken flavor instead of venison. I decided to give a small bag of this a try just to see how the dogs liked it. The only real difference was the lack of raw bits which I’ve seen happen in the bigger bags too but this little bag had hardly any at all! For the price, it really could have been better. If your dog is crazy for venison then maybe it’s worth it but not for mine. I’ll stick with the chicken or maybe try one of the other flavors they have now.

    Dogs like the chicken better.

    By on

I bought this, and the chicken, on sale. My dogs went nuts over that one. For some reason they haven’t been eating all that well and have thrown up more then normal. They haven’t ever hard venison before... so I’m guessing it just doesn’t agree with their stomachs. No biggie.

Pup was skeptical, but ended up loving it.

    By on

I've been trying out different Instinct flavors and I'm glad to say my dog loves every one, this one especially. He's never had anything venison before so he was skeptical at first, but when he finally decided to try it out he was in love. This morning he hadn't even seen me pour it, but when he walked past his bowl and got a whiff he was turning around and trying to eat as fast as he could. He's never done this with any food brand of any flavor so I think it's safe to say I've got a deer fan on my hands lol. Will definitely be purchasing again.

Would recommend after our vet reviews ingredients and recommends

    By on

My darlings love it! We've just begun to feed this since Natural Balance was recalled. Have our vet the ingredient list and have requested his opinion on the quality. We did speak on the grain free issue and he shared it is still too soon on this issue to say. Research needs to continue further.

    obsessed with the white chunks

    By on

Our miniature Dauchsund is obsessed with the raw white chunks. She tosses at the rest and begs for the white pieces.

Good quality but dogs won't eat

    By on

My 2 Boston Terriers would just pick out the "raw" nuggets spreading the rest of the kibbles on the floor.

no good for toothless older dogs

    By on

My dog won't eat it. She has no front teeth and this is too hard for her. Even with water she won't even try it.

My GSD didnt like this brand

    By on

Chewy recommended Canidaie a couple months ago because it was not only high premium dog food, but it was on sale... my picky GSD loved it.. when I called to order more, another rep recommended this food... it had a strong odor that my husband couldnt stand, not usually dogs like... but to my surprise my GSD didnt like it. I was told it was similar to the Canidaie & also the same price. Unfortunately my pick German Sheperd didnt like it at all. But thanks Chewy for trying to help me find another dog food for my picky gsd.

Dog loves it & his tummy loves it!

    By on

Due to skin issues / allergies, my dog was on human-grade food (example: ground turkey with nutrients & veggies). It helped significantly but wasn’t quite the solution for his skin. Then we tried Natures Variety Salmon and found that his stool was extremely watery for a week +. We took him off as we realized the issue was more than him ‘adjusting to his new food’. So we tried venison at the recommendation of a Chewy employee. With their great return policy, I thought, “why not” and tried it. My dog LOVES it and his stomach digests it well with nice solid poops :) His paws (where the skin issues are) are starting to look better and his paw pads are starting to get a nice dark pigment again. His skin isn’t as flaky around his paws - although it’s only been a week, we have a long way to go to see if long term this is the solution. But so far, one week in, and we are looking good! … more
