Feeding Instructions

Ideal feeding amounts will vary by age, weight, and activity level so the guide below should be used as an initial recommendation.

Daily Feeding Guidelines:

For adult dogs, serve 6 ounces for every 15 pounds of body weight.

For puppies (except large breed [70+lbs as an adult]), feed up to twice the adult maintenance amount. For pregnant and nursing females, feed up to three times the adult maintenance amount. Visit the Instinct Pet Food website for more specific feeding recommendations.

Handling Tips:

  • Keep frozen until ready to use. Defrost your pet's daily portion by thawing it in a covered container in the refrigerator overnight or for approximately 4 to 6 hours. Should be cold to the touch when served.

  • Wash hands, working surfaces, utensils, bowls and any other items that come in contact with raw meat or poultry with hot, soapy water.

  • If your pet does not consume all the food presented within 30 minutes, discard any leftovers.

  • Keep package sealed to maintain freshness.

Transition Instructions

Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Instinct with the current food each day.

Visit the Instinct Pet Food website for more specific feeding recommendations and information on how to easily combine different forms of food.

LEAD WITH RAW

It all started with Instinct's raw pet food. Since the beginning, they've led with raw because they know the good it can do. They're rewriting the rules of pet food and championing raw nutrition to bring its superior benefits to all that they do.

KEEP IT REAL

Delicious and nutritious pet food should only use real ingredients. For Instinct, this means all-natural, real meat, fruits and vegetables, with nothing artificial.

MAKE IT SIMPLE

Feeding raw should be simple, and it should easily fit into your everyday routine. Instinct believes raw should be accessible to pet parents so every pet can experience the benefits of raw nutrition.

DO IT TOGETHER

Instinct believes in the power of raw nutrition. It only makes sense to share it. Together with local shelters and volunteer efforts nationwide we’re on a mission to transform the lives of all pets.

MAKE IT BETTER

Instinct has never been afraid to challenge the status quo of pet nutrition. They continuously redefine what better means—always pushing their standards of nutrition to raise the bar in pet food.

Pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece

About Instinct

Instinct believes deeply that it's up to them to find a way to make it possible for more people to feed their pets the pure, real nutrition that only comes from raw. I hate it but all 6 of my dogs love it.

    By on

I hate the fact that it must be thawed before serving. I hate the feel of raw food - BUT - all six of my dogs love it with a passion. It's the food they gobble down. All have wonderful coats, no skin problems, no digestive problems. My vet always compliments the condition of my guys and says I must be doing something right. She has even referred others to me. I feed Instinct Frozen Bits in the morning and the Chub in the evening.

    Good quality, not practical

    By on

My dog loves Instinct raw frozen products. And I love them because they are convenient for me. This product has the great quality food at a more reasonable price that the Instinct pellets or medallions. However it is not practical at all. I have an Australian Shepherd, he is a good eater but there is no way I can thaw this big chunk of food and have him eat it all before it goes bad. So personally I partially thaw it, cut it in chunks and freeze it again which, I know, is not great but how else can I manage? I pull out 3 or 4 chunks every 2 or 3 days to thaw in a box in my fridge. I believe if this was pre-cut in cubes, it would be so much easier. As mentioned in other reviews, it is also leaky My dog loves Instinct raw frozen products. And I love them because they are convenient for me. Maybe I should buy a saw so I can cut it when it's still frozen? … more

    Good Food, Bad Packaging

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

My dog loves this food and I love Instinct as a company. I was hoping to save some money with these chubs but both packages from separate shipments had huge tears in them. Chewy always carefully packs everything and I have not had this problem with other brands that package in rolls. I'll stick to the patties and nuggets until the packaging changes!

    Amazing food but beware...

    By on

This food is fantastic. It has no yucky fillers. The only potato in it is sweet potato, and there is no pea protein. My Shepherd gets half Instinct Kibble half Frozen. Beware when you defrost it, the package leaks big time. I threw mine in a big ziploc bag after that and no more issues. This is the best value for Instinct Raw Frozen food. My dog used to pick at his kibble, now he eats like a horse!

    Chow hound didn’t like

    By on

My weim is a chow hound and will eat pretty much everything you give to him. So I thought this would be a treat to mix into his dry food. When I did. He ate slowly and kind of picked at the dry bits. I tried to give him a spoonful of it in a bowl and he wouldn’t touch it. I’m not sure why.

    Catnip for canines

    By on

My older dog was placed on a special low fat easy to digest prescription diet due to emergency surgery. He hated it. After studying the fat content of Instinct Raw Chicken, I ordered a chub and use 2 Tbls in each of his twice daily meals. Works like a charm!

My Japanese Chin gives this 4 paws up!

    By on

I have a very fussy Japanese Chin who pretty much turns his nose up at everything. The vet gave him an appetite stimulant to get him to eat as he was getting so skinny. A friend recommended Instinct raw medallions and I finally ordered some. He loves it. Isn't crazy about the beef or lamb but absolutely loves the chicken. He's slowly putting on weight now, finally. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

    Not bad...

    By on

My pups are 50% raw fed and 50% kibble. We decided to get this just to try and it wasn't a huge hit. My pickiest eater took forever to finish his food and my little "garbage disposal" ate slower than normal. Overall not a bad food though. Would buy it again if we couldn't get our normal brand.

Bought it for my senior, but she won't touch it. She's 16. But, my other senior loves it. He's 12.

    she wouldn' touch it

    By on

Finicky dog turned her nose up. These packages are too large to use up before the expiration date if you have one small dog. The product is a little gross to handle as well.
