1 ANIMAL PROTEIN
The ingredient list is purposefully simple for pets with food sensitivities. It focuses on one animal protein and one vegetable—versus the mix of each you'll find in most pet foods.

SIMPLE AND ESSENTIAL
Sometimes what's not included is just as important as what is. These recipes are made with grass-fed meat or cage-free poultry and always made without grain, dairy, eggs, potato, corn, wheat, soy or artificial ingredients.

Pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece
They put the pure, real nutrition of raw on every piece of Instinct Limited Ingredient Diet by tumbling their kibble with crushed, freeze-dried raw—raising the bar in nutrition and taste.
The Pure, Real Nutrition of Raw Is In Everything Instinct Does
Instinct's Responsibility as The Raw Brand
LEAD WITH RAW
It all started with Instinct's raw pet food. Since the beginning, they've led with raw because they know the good it can do. They're rewriting the rules of pet food and championing raw nutrition to bring its superior benefits to all that they do.
KEEP IT REAL
Delicious and nutritious pet food should only use real ingredients. For Instinct, this means all-natural, real meat, fruits and vegetables, with nothing artificial.
MAKE IT SIMPLE
Feeding raw should be simple, and it should easily fit into your everyday routine. Instinct believes raw should be accessible to pet parents so every pet can experience the benefits of raw nutrition.
DO IT TOGETHER
Instinct believes in the power of raw nutrition. It only makes sense to share it. Together with local shelters and volunteer efforts nationwide we’re on a mission to transform the lives of all pets.
MAKE IT BETTER
Instinct has never been afraid to challenge the status quo of pet nutrition. They continuously redefine what better means—always pushing their standards of nutrition to raise the bar in pet food.

About Instinct
Instinct believes deeply that it's up to them to find a way to make it possible for more people to feed their pets the pure, real nutrition that only comes from raw. They know that if they can get the nutrition of raw into more bowls, they'll transform the lives of more pets. And that's really why they do what they do.

my picky 10 year old chihuahua loves it

I had gone through at least 6 different brand until i gave this a try and she has been eating it for a few months now. She seems to like it. Finishes all of it.

So far, so good ...
By oh4chew on Jan 26, 2020
We've been feeding this to our pets for several cycles now and thus far they seem to be responding "okay" to it. With less reason to cause gut irritation, our alternative would likely be vegan. The smaller bags allow for maximum freshness, but we're ordering more often ... still a small inconvenience for happier pups. Time will tell if this is our permanent solution, though we're hopeful ...

new dog food
By Teddy on Aug 26, 2019
I was at a loss as to what dry dog food to try after finding out that Nature's Variety Prairie was no longer being made. I tried this type and so far, my dog loves it as that's saying a lot as he is a finicky eater.

Liked the idea of limited ingredients
By Daisy on Sep 5, 2019
Wanted to like this limited ingredient small breed kibble. One pup will not eat it at all and the other pup will only eat it with a topper on it.

Good Limited Ingredient Food
By Patricia on Mar 3, 2019 Top 50 Contributor
This is a good food but not near as good as the Ultimate Protein food Nature’s Variety is discontinuing which is what I was feeding my yorkies. Very disappointed they would discontinue such a good food leaving customers to have to switch foods and feed one of a lower quality. This has peas in it and there is so much controversy over peas and legumes causing heart disease in dogs that it really bothers me that it’s impossible to find a grain free diet without peas, potatoes or legumes. My dogs seem okay with this food but I’m not happy about feeding this. I’ll probably put them back on a raw diet.

Only dry food my dogs will eat
By Nott on Dec 20, 2018
I have two very picky Rat Terriers ages 7 and 8 who won't eat anything and I've tried everything from Dog Chow to Blue Buffalo and they finally liked the Instinct. I keep their bowl full of the Instinct dry food all the time and they actually go up to the food like the cats do several times a day and nibble on it. It amazes me that they actually are eating dry dog food! They still have feeding time like the cats do where they all get canned food but this Instinct food is the only dry food they actually eat and enjoy.

Great food!
By Snolan on Nov 6, 2018
All my kids loved the food! It was like they couldn’t get enough. They were having problems with their old dog food causing allergies so I switched to this and haven’t had a problem since.
