Bought this as part of a bundle with the dry kibble. I recently adopted some cats that were in foster and eating Fancy Feast. Both have teeth issues, so paté tends to be easier for them to eat, but I do give them a little kibble stirred in. This seemed perfect. Unfortunately, neither cat likes the wet food at all. Even when I put some Delectables Squeeze-Ups on it. I noticed several people mentioned the recipe seems to have changed, so maybe they should reconsider this new recipe.
First of all, I was really skeptical about ordering this food because my 12 year old cat is picky and not a very good eater. She has hyper thyroid issues and is allergic to the medicine She has lost so much weight weighing in at 4lbs. All the prescription thyroid food is not available right now so we tried this. SHE LOVES IT! She even stopped throwing up. Yah!
Sorry to say because I LOVE Chewy and their customer service team but.....this Instinct recipe is NOT the same as before. Used to see fresh-looking pate with chunks of carrots and whole peas in a white lined can. Now it's a fatty/coagulated grey-looking pate with no sign of veggies in a grey-metal lined can. Older version had "Made in USA" stamped on outside - this is no longer stamped on the new version. Sadly, I must now purchase my cans from a local pet store.
I agree with other reviews. The formula has dramatically changed recently. It is too fat, bad smelling pate now. It also seems overcooked. It looks like made of bad fatty ingredients. So disappointed :((
I was hoping my 3 picky cats would love this food, but only 1 cat will eat a little. I have to refrigerate half of the can and feed it over 2 days while removing their dry food to get the can finished. I am disappointed, because it has excellent ingredients.
As everyone else in the reviews has been saying, the formula change is not good. I have a pretty picky cat and got a batch just before the formula change and one just after. It’s a world of difference. Trust what everyone is saying! This new formula is not good! The pate is covered in yellow, coagulated material and it’s not appetizing to my cat anymore. Frankly, it looks disgusting heh.
I bought a case from chewy vecause Instinct I thought was a high quality trusted brand fir a cat with IBD...then, I happened to read the ingredients.... totally dufferwnt...a bunch of veggies and guards gum. Cats don't need veggies or guar gun and can trigger IBD! Also, removed the m. clay which was a good ingredient! So disappointing. I will no longer buy this
Our 14yo cat is hyperthyroid (medicated) and is thinner than I would like. All his values recently tested in normal range, but he has always been picky since we got him and food has always been a big challenge. Our vet had previously recommended a kidney care diet and I have exhausted all of our lower phosphorus options as our cat is very picky and he outright refused to eat prescription. We have found a few that he will eat, but only if it is in a rotation as he does not like to eat the same thing for every meal or even every day. His recent lab values showed his kidney levels have improved since we have adopted him about 2 years ago, however he is so picky I am constantly worried about his weight. I was trying to find a "not super low but not super high" phosphorus food and I stumbled on this as the Chewy answers say it is 1.50% phosphorus on a dry matter basis. I bought a few cans locally based on this and he scarfed it down. So, I decided to order a case of this and the variety pack. I emailed the company afterwards to be sure I knew what the phosphorus levels were and unfortunately, the company gave me higher percentages than what Chewy states on their answers page. The company let me know this one has 1.80%. Not insanely high, but still higher than I would like. I would really like him to get more calories and since he seems to like this, I still give this to him in his rotation of (many, many) different foods. This does seem like a quality food, but I am still considering if it should be kept in the rotation, due to the higher phosphorus levels, once I have used up what I bought from Chewy. On the one hand it has high calories, which is absolutely what I want, but I also don't want him to have higher kidney levels. I would recommend this if you have a picky cat that doesn't have health issues. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the phosphorous levels, but the food seems very quality and all our cats seem to like it.
My cat Tiger, has a thyroid condition, and we have to give him medicine 2 times a day. He has a lot of trouble overeating and puking, thereby losing too much weight. This food seems to stay with him, and he has been gaining some weight, which is great for a senior kitty. Seems to be a good choice for helping him get out of his skinny jeans and into some curvy ones!
My twenty year old could only eat the chicken flavored wet can and enjoyed it for many years. Refuses to eat it now. Food has loose consistency and is missing the cute veggies. The can is thicker and will not clean enough to recycle. Tried mixing new and old cans until I ran out. Very disappointed in Thailand takeover. Must find a new food to introduce while dealing with his other health issues and intolerance to many foods. Please bring back the USA product!
