Iris-Approved!

Our 29 lb. dachshund mix, Iris, absolutely loves this food. We used to feed her a different brand and she liked it, but she wasn't overly enthusiastic about mealtimes. We started her on Instinct Whole Grain at the recommendation of her vet, and this dog now comes RUNNING when we pull the food bag out. She especially goes wild for the raw bites. Her vet says she is in excellent health, which is amazing considering the state she was in when we adopted her, and we've also noticed a major improvement in her skin and coat after starting her on this food. Instinct is quite expensive, which is my only negative, but I believe our furry friends are worth top quality. Instinct is 100% Iris-approved, we're sticking with it. :)

Best of both worlds?

It's nice that it has both kibble and freeze dried pieces for variety. I don't necessarily buy into the raw feeding trend, however I can't deny that freeze dried raw seems to taste very appealing to some dogs. My dog did enjoy eating this food while he was on it, up until I realized he was allergic to chicken.

Lucky Charms for Dogs

Instinct food is loved by my dog. She loves the taste of all the varieties. We had trouble with the grain-free formula causing GI issues , but the flavors with grain do not have the same effect. My dog eats all the “marshmallows” first then grazes on the rest.

Lots of raw bits

Good packaging with resealable closure. Lots of freeze dried raw bits, more than any of the other instinct grain free options that I have purchased. I liked that this was whole grain as I have been mixing the grain free varieties with another brand that is not grain free. My little Ellie eats all the raw bits but will not eat the kibble. She has always loved the instinct kibble, and has never refused to eat any of the different protein sources. When I ordered, the small bag was out of stock so I ordered the 20lb bag, knowing this would last my 5lb chihuahua for at least 8 months but thinking I would not have to mix with another brand. I recommend ordering the small bag first, as it seem to be a very different flavor than the grain free options.

This is great food

I have an allergic Lab and I have tried many foods. This is the first food he has tolerated. There's a really good nutritional balance to this food and he's doing great on it. He also loves this food. I'm extremely pleased with Instinct.

Do not buy

I wish zero stars was an option. I bought this and began switching my puppy over to it very slowly. She has been healthy all her life and has only eaten the puppy food from this same brand, we’ve been to the vet 4 times in 1 week, she has never had allergies and her entire sweet face swelled up. It was terrifying. Luckily she is doing well now and is on several meds.

Dogs and Mom approve

My older dog does not handle grain free well. Too much starch. My dogs love this food, and are doing well on it. Add a little warm water and the raw coating makes a gravy. Came to my door 2 days after I ordered it!
