What is Ringworm?

Feline Dermatophytosis, also known as Ringworm, is a highly contagious, superficial fungal disease of the hair, skin and nails. Although Ringworm can be relatively easy to diagnose, resolution of the infection can take several months. The most effective treatments usually involve a combination of systemic, topical and environmental approaches. Treating cats can generally be challenging due to usual difficulties in bathing and administering pills, as well as their tendency to lick off topical products.

What does treating my cat look like?

It’s important to remember that you can play an important role in the effectiveness of your cat’s recovery:

  • Follow the exact treatment and approach prescribed by your veterinarian
  • Maintain appointments with your veterinarian to monitor ringworm cultures and overall progress
  • Prevent contamination of the environment during treatment
  • Minimize exposure to family members and other animals in your home

    So easy to administer!

By Mish on Aug 20, 2021

Another review said this liquid was bitter and difficult to give and this is not true. We have treated several kittens and not had any issues at all. It’s possible the cat they have just didn’t like the flavor by some fluke, but we deal with kittens all of the time and have definitely given bad tasting medicine and this is not one of them. We are very happy with this product! A recommendation is to just put the medicine toward the back of the throat so they don’t taste it as much if you’re having this issue. We have not had any issues at all with the flavor.

    Amazing, definitely recommend!

By Carolyn on Jul 4, 2021

My vet prescribed this to my two hairless cats who got ringworm. I was panicking because I’ve never had to deal with this before and I had three weeks from the time that they got it to the time I was leaving on vacation which is in a week. When I tell you this made their spots start to clear up within a week, it is amazing. This combined with special shampoo treatments 2x a week and topical ointment every morning, my cats will be out of quarantine in just a few days!

    Worked against very resistant ringworm!

By Malorie on Feb 9, 2021

This is a fantastic product!! I rescued two kittens out of a high kill shelter and they developed such bad ringworm all over their bodies which spread to my other babies. After two months of vet visits and trying seemingly every product under the sun; sprays, mousses, lyme dips 2X week that did nothing, I was losing hope! After the first week with this product it FINALLY stopped spreading and began to clear up. Thank you so much to the makers of this product. A little expensive but completely worth it!

    Itrafungol WORKS!!!

By Dana on Jan 13, 2021

I gave my cat the medication with the little applicator/measurer but he kind of choked on it - too far down his throat. Next time - not so far but then he fought mightily. So I put the rest of it in his food - and he ate it all! I checked with my vet and she says that's fine.

    Cured Nasal Fungus Infection

    By Tmiller42 on Dec 29, 2020

My poor cat was severely congested, sneezing and her entire nose waa raw from her scratching her face. I saw 4 vets before we were prescribed this RX. Within 2 days, she stopped the scratching of her nose and her breathing began to improve. After 4 days, she could breath freely through her nose and no longer sounded congested. Treatment is expected to last 90 days and we are only on day 18, but what a difference!

    Only Medicine That Worked!

By Darnell on Oct 26, 2020

My Yorker was covered with open sores plus loosing his hair. It was painful for him to even move because when he did his skin was breaking open. After several vet visits of diagnosis of Ringworm nothing was helping. My daughter was prescribed this for her cat that had Ringworm but nowhere near as severe as my dog had. This medicine was a lifesaver! Could tell all his sores were finally scabbing over within 4 days! After a month of using it His hair is growing back too and he is back to his normal lively self. Highly recommend this medicine for dogs too.

    Medically effective but awful liquid

By Thikacat on Oct 16, 2020

My cat picked up ringworm from a foster cat (vet checked!) and, when topical treatment didn’t work, this was prescribed. We just finished the second week of it (with baths as well) and she is much better. HOWEVER, I have had cats all my life and this is the first time I have been unable to give the medication myself. It is a bitter, very sticky liquid. She just hates it. No reason for the manufacturer to do this. I had to hire a tech to come in and give it, and it still makes a mess. Plus it needs continual monitoring (liver function ) and repeat fungal cultures. ($350 every three weeks) It is costing a fortune. If she needs to stay on it longer, I am going to search for tablets.

    Hooray for 2020 Surprises...

By Becks on Dec 2, 2020

So far, so good. Our newly adopted kitten began showing signs of ringworm on his ear shortly after adopting him from a local shelter. He has one week down of this medicine and two weeks to go. He doesn't seem to mind it. Doesn't run from me and takes it like a champ. Too soon to know if it works fully since we are only a week in, but his ear looks better!

    so far so good

By Lryan on Aug 3, 2020

I am only one week into the 5 week series and I noticed a change within 2 days. My cat got ringworm from a rescue kitten we brought in and it was ALL over his body. It must have transferred all over when I shaved him in preps to start his ringworm dips. It was so bad and I was so upset. But I am so happy that this medicine really did stop a lot of his areas from becoming red, irritated and flaring up. I feel like I have this under control now thanks to having this prescription
