Precautions

Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling used cat litter, as cat feces may contain Toxoplasma gondii—a parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis. Keep contents and packaging out of reach of children and pets. Seek medical help in case of accidental ingestion.

Instructions

If you're training your cat to use a litter box, keep the following suggestions in mind:

  • Most kittens are ready to begin litter training at about three to four weeks of age.
  • Keep the litter box in a private, quiet area and ensure that the kitten can easily use the box.
  • Place the kitten in the litter box when he looks ready to urinate.
  • Never rub your kitten's nose in his waste if he urinates in the wrong spot. This is ineffective as a training tool and will make your cat fearful of you.
  • Clean all inappropriate waste areas completely and spray with an odor neutralizer.
  • Be patient and observant. You're establishing the habit of a lifetime.

What to do if your cat stops using the litter box: * Note the progression and duration of the behavior. * Make sure the box is in a secure and private location, and they can climb in and out with no extra effort. * Limit your cats' opportunities to make messes in the house. Watch them and put them in their box during their usual time of eliminations (after waking and eating, for example). * Clean the inappropriate soiled areas to make them undesirable, otherwise your cat will return to the same location. This can be achieved by spraying the previously soiled area with an unappealing scent or with an odor neutralizer, which will ultimately discourage your cat from soiling there again. * Lastly, make sure your cat's litter box is clean. Most cats will not go in a dirty litter box.

Additional Instructions

  • Only dispose of used cat litter in trash. Do not flush, bury or dispose of it outdoors, in gutters or storm drains to avoid environmental contamination.
  • Not for internal use. Not meant for use as compost or as a traction aid.
  • Store in a cool, dry place. Product filled by weight; some settling may occur.
Transition Instructions

Slowly mix in your old litter with the new one. Cats are finicky and get used to one smell so a change can throw them off.

Cat Litter was not the same as described on depicted

    By on

The cat litter is supposed to be crushed light gray stones and some white sand . What came was black tiny stones and mostly black sand . It worked more like clupping cat litter.

    This is a good brand.

I like this litter for our 3 cats. It doesn't have any fancy fragrance, but it works. I wish I could find it locally, but I'm glad Chewy has it!

    Buyer Beware

    By on

I received my chewy package, and could tell right away when I picked it up that the litter had split open. It was all over the pkg, and in the boxes of food. Had to clean everything because they were dusty from litter. Not a good purchase through chewy. I like chewy for the convenience, but felt more attention should have been paid to protect this item.

    TRIED AND TRUE

    By on

I HAVE USED THIS LITTER FROM MY LOCAL GROCERY FOR CLOSE TO 50 YEARS. I'M GLAD IT FINALLY CAME TO CHEWY EVEN THOUGH THE PRICE IS MUCH HIGHER THERE. ALSO THE DESCRIPTION NEXT TO THE LITTER IS INCORRECT. BUT I KNEW THE BAG VERY WELL SO I TOOK A CHANCE THE BAG IS CORRECT. IT IS FRAGRANCE FREE "UNSCENTED" BUT IT IS NOT CLUMPING. I HAVE TRIED CLUMPING AND DON'T LIKE IT SO I FIGURED IT WAS ONE I'VE ALWAYS USED AND DESCRIPTION WAS WRONG. AND IT IS. WHILE I HEARTILY RECOMMEND IT, IT IS OVERPRICED HERE. I CANNOT SAY BY HOW MUCH BUT I WILL GO BACK TO MY GROCERY ONCE OUR VIRAL SITUATION IS OVER. NORMALLY CHEWY'S PRICES ARE VERY GOOD. IF THEY WANT ME TO CONTINUE THEY SHOULD RECONSIDER A LOWER PRICE I HAVE USED THIS LITTER FROM MY LOCAL GROCERY FOR CLOSE TO 50 YEARS. Good Litter

    By on

I like this litter it has a lot less dust than Fresh Step and works just as well. Chewy charged 3 times the amount I pay in my local store.

    Great stuff!

    By on

Ok this is def better than "yesterday's news' (yuk) and if there is any odor after a while just sprinkle baking soda. For the price I think this works well-this and 'world's best cat litter.' Of course-I always get fragrance free.

    Not for automatic boxes

    By on

I have an automatic cat box and the clay in this bag is in pieces that don't easily fit through the rake of my box. I end up throwing more good cat litter away than I should. It's an ok litter for regular boxes though.

    Basic non-clumping clay litter

    By on

Some of the reviews give low ratings because it doesn't clump. This is old-fashioned plain clay litter that does not clump. It's not a bug, it's a feature! We have new little kittens, so we can't use clumping litter until they are older. This is the only unscented, non-clumping clay litter we could find on Chewy, and we probably won't get it again because we have better options locally. If you can only order from Chewy and need non-clumping unscented clay, I think you are stuck with this. It's much more expensive than the non-clumping clay litter from the grocery store and big box store, almost ridiculously so. Those are under $5 for a 20 lb bag. There's nothing great or different about Jonny Cat to merit the expense. It has larger than expected particles and moderate dust (more than Special Kitty natural clay litter or Dr. Elsey's clumping Precious Cat, less than Tidy Cat or Fresh Step clumping litter). It has an earthy and slightly metallic smell and seemed to stay wet longer and control odor a lot less. … more
