Does JustFoodForDogs meet AAFCO standards?

Yes. Each of our canine daily diets have gone through Evidence-Based Research at a major university. Since day one, we have balanced our food to National Research Council (NRC) standards. The NRC reports directly to the FDA and is the most up-to-date authority on nutritional guidelines. Our feline recipe is formulated to meet the 2016 AAFCO nutritional profiles for feline maintenance.

How do I store JustFoodForDogs?

The easiest way to feed fresh is to get into a cycle of freezer to refrigerator to bowl. Remove the package from the freezer and defrost in the refrigerator (preferred), or immerse in cold water. Store in the refrigerator in a glass or plastic container and then serve the recommended amount. JustFoodForDogs lasts for a year when frozen.

What if JustFoodForDogs sits at room temperature for an hour or so after thawing?

You want to think about your dog’s fresh food the same way you do your own. An hour, or even two is not going to be a problem, but if you accidentally leave it out overnight, it should be thrown away.

Does JustFoodForDogs use any preservatives?

Our only preservative is the freezer. We do not add any preservatives at all.

Where is JustFoodForDogs made?

Our food is crafted by hand in our open-to-the-public Kitchens that you can visit, as well as in our own Kitchens in Irvine, California and New Castle, Delaware.

How does this item ship to me?

Frozen dog food will be shipped on dry ice and in an insulated box or a box with a Styrofoam insert. This ensures the food remains frozen all the way to your door.

What ingredients are featured in our Tofu & Quinoa recipe?

Super Firm Tofu: Good source of vegan protein. Soy also has a good track record of being used in pet food with no concerns for developing heart disease.

• Quinoa: A high protein, high fiber "ancient grain". Quinoa is rich in anti- inflammatory phytonutrients, and minerals.
• Sweet Potatoes: Excellent source of beta-carotene (precursor for vitamin A), potassium, folic acid, choline, biotin, B vitamins, and copper.
• Nutritional Yeast Flakes: A rich source of B vitamins and protein. Nutritional yeast is a healthy ingredient that help provide richness to the diet to help with palatability.
• Kale: Kale is high in antioxidants, vitamin C, beta-carotene, manganese, and contain anti-inflammatory phytonutrients.
• White Button Mushrooms: Besides being rich in antioxidants and minerals. White button mushrooms were also recommended by our research partners for its anti-microbial properties and potential to aid in dental health.
• Blueberries: Excellent source fiber, and antioxidants like vitamin C.
• Safflower Oil: Contains essential omega-6 fatty acids that dogs need.
• Flaxseed Oil: Provides anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids.
• Vegan Nutrient Blend (includes Vegan Vitamin D3): A completely vegan nutrient blend to complement the food ingredients in the recipe to make the Tofu & Quinoa complete and balanced for long term feeding.

Why did our Veterinarians on staff choose to create a vegan recipe?

• We partnered with our research partners at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) to develop this vegan recipe with the “One Health” approach in mind. Our goal is to explore a more environmentally sustainable option to support and play an active role in climate change efforts.
• In addition, the recipe will also fill a niche for dogs with allergies to animal- based proteins or inflammatory bowel disease that may be sensitive to animal based proteins.
