Can this be used on the front of the person with the dog facing forward? if not, is there a different option available for this position?

the pic shows a very big one and a smaller one what size is the smaller one or what size is the larger one??

This backpack comes in 3 sizes. Please see attached sizing chart.

How long can you keep your pup in this? Would it get too hot for them considering their body heat and their humans body heat? I’ve been debating on getting this for my 16 lb chihuahua but I live in a hot area and I’m worried about him getting too hot.

Does this keep the dog's back from rounding? Will it hurt them after a couple of hours? I have a dachshund and I'm worried he'd get back problems.

K9 Sport Sack carriers were designed under the close supervision of multiple veterinarians to ensure maximum comfort and safety. If the K9 Sport Sack is used properly, you should not have any issues with your dog's back. The carrier (except for size XS) is equipped with a lumbar strap for extra back support. However, if your dog has pre-existing health concerns or we recommend consulting your veterinarian before purchasing. During the consultation, it will be important to know your dog may stand on the base of the bag at first, but will settle in to sit in an upright position on their bottom. Their front paws will be exposed and resting on your shoulders. We recommend using the carrier for 30-45 minutes at a time.

Well made but need more adjustability

K9 Sport Sack knows what they're doing. All of their bags are very well made and help keep the dog secured. My one complaint with the larger sizes is that they are measured primarily by length and the straps that hold the dog around their back don't adjust down sufficiently for my dog at the moment. Since my puppy is still growing I also have him using a booster (something the manufacturer recommends) but putting him on a booster makes it so the straps don't line up in the right place for lumbar support for the puppy. I figure that once he finishes growing that will resolve itself but if your fully grown dog is on the short end of a range I'd size down instead of counting on a booster to fill in the gap. One of my favorite features of this bag over the smaller options is the sternum strap which helps better distribute the weight of the dog and keeps the dog secure on your back.

Helping us train

We are training for a week of hiking on the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Our recent adoption of a 10 pound pomski (4 months) has made hiking any distance more challenging. He gets tired after 1-2 miles. We bought this pack so that he can rest and still enjoy the hike. We have only used it twice but both times have gone great. He walks till he's tired and then gets in his pack. I give him frequent treats and cuddles while he rides on my husband's back.

Nice features, but still a work in progress

I really enjoy this bag, though the small is a bit large for my pup and I have to keep a hand towel folded up in the bottom (she also refuses to sit how the instructions recommend, but she's a rebel at heart and her way allows her to kick me when she wants out). Pro tip... watch the video and be patient. Week 1 I wanted to cry I was struggling so bad, but then I realized there was an updated video and I was missing the key step of closing the collar strap before doing anything else. I have a super chill cat that let me stuff him in, and that helped give me the confidence to get my squirmy pup in and out on the trail. As others have said, a hip belt would be a nice addition (but it looks like the new model has one!), and if you put much weight in the pouch you crush your pup and also make it pull back a little more on the bag (I've started clipping my pouch to the collar strap as well and that helps a little). Good for light snacks, a couple of bottles of water (if it's a cooler day be conscientious of their temperature, I chilled my poor pup one day with some cold bottles of water in the side pockets on a cool fall day). I picked up a waist pack for water that I can wear with this bag for slightly longer strolls. It's a good tool to have in your arsenal, but test it on shorter walks first to see how they do. Our pup is an 8 pound chi and she appreciates the lift! I also have an Alfie, but this is great because it distributes the weight to both shoulders.

Great buy for my little dog

Miss Pepper fits perfectly in this backpack size small. She is 18” in girth and loves to sit in here while her momma works!

Great way for little legs to enjoy a hike!

I’ve had some weakness in my hind legs recently - I was just diagnosed with Cushing’s. My mom got this backpack so that I still could go on hikes with her. It works great. I’m comfortable, and I can still see everything! Would recommend. Also, we ordered the wrong size initially. Chewy couldn’t accept a return, but they refunded the original cost and told us to donate the wrong-sized backpack to a rescue organization. We checked with our local SPCA, and they were able to take it to share with one of their rescues who could use it. Yay! Thanks, Chewy!

dog mom achievement - unlocked!

All my dog mom dreams have come true! I’ve truly leveled up! This backpack is amazing. It’s sturdy and comfortable and fits my long, fat 39 lb corgi mix. I ordered a large and she fits! I also can fit my 28 lb mixed breed in the large, too. I can’t wait to take them everywhere with me!

Ready for Adventures!

I adopted this old boy back in June, and I’m fully leaning into the “this dog is now my child” mindset… meaning that I want to take this little guy with me whenever I get the chance. Willie is mostly blind, so walking on a crowded sidewalk isn’t a safe option. He was *not* a fan the first time we tried this out- to the point where I thought I’d have to return it. We kept trying though, and with a good deal of positive reinforcement (“good boy” “calm” “backpack” and treats galore), he is really starting to get the hang of it. I’m trying to get him used to the backpack around the apartment before I take him in the city- chores and walking up and down stairs and walking the treadmill have all worked fine. If your pup seems like they aren’t a fan, just be patient and gently introduce them to the backpack and give lots of positive reinforcement- it might help! Like some of the other reviewers stated, extra straps would be great for back support, but so far that is my only complaint. This opens up a lot of doors that would otherwise be closed to an older blind dog, and I’m really grateful for it!

Pup carrier

This pack works for short distances. I traveled to the desert. Useful moments were when I did not want to leave my dog in the car when I went grocery shopping because it was just too darn hot. I also used it for certain hiking trails where dogs were not permitted on. The pack carrier was useful then. But there is no waist strap so it’s difficult to hike long distances especially in the heat. The dog will get hot and so will the person carrying the dog especially where your bodies make contact. The dog could use some head shade. The heat was also the reason I did not attach the external bag that comes with it. I held it in my hand. It would be more useful if that had a longer handle or a shoulder strap. There is no pouch for a water bottle for easy access on either item. In summary, this bag works when it comes to carrying a dog, I recommend securing all the straps for best fit for both you and the dog. Ideally this bag works best if you have another person with you to help get the dog in it, then on your back and finally to check on the dog as you walk. Next time when I hike alone , I will carry a small wide angled to mirror to check on the dog.

functional/well constructed but needs a supportive waist belt...

I have a 14 lb.pug that fits well in this backpack with a towel stuffed in the bottom so she sits in the correct position to both peek out and have her paws in the sleeve holes. It's a lot of pressure on your shoulders...it would have been more comfortable with a supportive /balancing waist belt like baby carriers have. My dog doesn't weigh a lot, but the straps pull down pretty hard on your trap muscles...and I consider myself pretty fit. I also have a 22 lb. frenchie that is way too heavy to carry in this set up...and I ordered the Medium size. It is however, very well made with sturdy materials and tight seams.

Works well, but hard to get our dog in the pack

This works as advertised. Our 11 pound maltipoo fit in the bag and it wasn't a strain to walk with her in the pack. She seemed fairly content while in the bag. My problem with the product was the difficulty to get going. We watched the instructional video, but it still took both me and my spouse to get our struggling dog into the bag and then my spouse had to hold the pack while I slipped into the straps. Too much of an ordeal and we're returning the product.
