Normally ok
I don't know why the last 8 or so bags I've used have had a sour smell. Probably not kiln dried completely and exposed to moisture, although no visible mold. Too impractically sized to return and no inventory to replace it with. I would order in small quantities when available

I have 7 Guinea pigs and a rabbit, I use fleece in my Guinea pigs cages but I have litter boxes for their hay, and my rabbits are free roam but they have litter boxes as well, before I was using pelletized pine bedding from tractor supply but I was going through a bag pretty much every other week. I change their litter boxes often( 2-3 times a week) and that still didn’t last long at all, it was cheap yes but the drive was about an hour away and Wasn’t worth the convenience. This bag is HUGE and the quality seems pretty decent especially for the price, I’ve seen these go on sale multiple times so I’ll be keeping an eye out to catch the sales. This bag should last me about a month, I changed their boxes today and it only took about a corner, and barely knocked a dent in this bag. It’s work the price and convenience for sure. I also prefer aspen over kiln dried pine so it’s a win!
Very small shavings, dusty
These shavings are so much smaller than the shavings I’ve bought in the past. The photos make them look like normal size, but they are 1/4-1/8 the size of other brands. I’m very disappointed because they have much more dust which is really bad for our guinea pigs. I would not recommend them for small pets and I will not be buying them again!
Highly recommend
I bought this bedding from chewy because where i was getting Aspen from almost doubled in price a few months ago! Chewy never fails this pet loving family! Shipping was quicker than expected, and the aspen itself is so much softer than the kind im used to buying! I will continue to buy this item from chewy from now on! Thank you
Disappointed
Bought this to mix with paper bedding for our son’s hamster and as we were filling the cage I noticed it had a strange smell. It honestly smells like Play-Doh and managed to stink up our son’s room in no time. It’s a shame - I loved being able to buy such a large bag but with the odor it isn’t worth it.
Thin sliced Aspen makes it soft and it didn't have an odor
This was so much better than what I was getting. It is thin, soft, dust-free and no discernable scent. Absorbs moisture well. They pack it tightly so you get lots of shavings. I use it under straw and in the rabbit's litter box over paper pellets. Local shops had a variable stock of Aspen shavings so I couldn't get it when needed. Ordering on Chewy was convenient and it arrived in a week or so.
Small pieces with lots of dust
It’s causing my rabbits to have sneezing fits and runny noses because there’s so much dust in this. I have never had problems with Aspen bedding before, yet this is a first. This is not very good quality shavings. Way too much dust.
Much better than pine/cedar
Not dusty at all. Got to mix with paper bedding for my bird cages to capture dander and poo. Even while fluffing and moving around, there was no dust. Sneeze test passed! The smell is also more pleasant than the other woods- softer as well. Using for 3 cages and still it’s going to last a long time. Recommend for sure.
Excellent Product
My family and myself moved from NYS and we were unable to get the bedding for the guinea pigs that we normally purchased. We switched to this bedding and are thrilled with it. This by far is the largest package of bedding we have seen. Their is no dust and the guinea pigs are doing great with it.
Smells pretty good
I normally use paper bedding but I needed something with a fresher scent. Hamsters don't seem to mind and they have no adverse reactions to it. It's low to no dust.
