I have purchased these lava ledges countless times and unfortunately I've seen a decrease in quality. The paint they use for the ledges now has a much more chemical smell and coats the ledges in a "heavier" way. With the last one I purchased I see that they are now using some plastic hardware which is not safe for chinchillas. Luckily I had leftover hardware from an old set of ledges to switch it out with. I will continue to purchase these at a reduced price (they are often on sale) but if another company could do it better I would switch! My chinchillas still use these often and the product works well to give them additional climbing space.
I get these Lava Ledges to put in my rats' cage. They love to sit on them. The ledge is an excellent natural way to keep the rats' nails short. I have only one in their Double Critter Nation at this time. I just ordered three more and plan to put ledges around the cage. They particularly like them near the front so they can sit on them and watch for me.
I got it for my pet rat but he doesn't mess with it at all doesn't really seem to care for it so I had to take it out. Of his cage
This item is no longer safe for chinchillas as one of the metal washers has been replaced by a plastic one. Not sure who at Kaytee thought this was a good idea. This was one of the few cage safe items available at major retailers for chinchillas. So disappointed in this change.
I got these for my chinchillas, and I’m quite disappointed that I cannot use them. They both smell like gas, and for that reason I’m not going to risk using them.
My rats LOVE these ledges! Currently have 4 in their cage and plan on adding more! Great product for the price!
My rats love this lava ledge! It lasts a while! They use it as a chew toy and for something else to jump onto
I guess these are updated lava ledges, cause they are bigger than the old ones and seem way more sturdy! These are going to be amazing for my boys!
I bought two (one for each cage) and my rats love it! The females seem to chew on it more than my males (who like to poop on it, lol..), but they love climbing on it.:)
These used to be okay for chinchillas however my last order came smelling like wd40. I cannot use them. However even had they not smelled like wd40 they would be unsafe because they switched the washer to plastic. Seriously not okay for chinchillas. I have a picture of an older one with the metal washer versus the newer stinky one with a plastic washer for comparison
