good buy if you have a small tank
i got this addition because i didn’t feel like the 10 gallon tank was enough. this was a super good buy! i will say tho, if you have a pet whose a really big chewer, you’re going to have to find replacements for them to climb on. thankfully my gerbil doesn’t chew on plastic & has always done well with plastic tubes, my others have not though so this setup would be out of the question for them. someone also said something about it having huge gaps, and it definitely doesn’t. unless you have tiny little baby mice, i do not believe your pet will escape. i recommend!

Bar spacing not appropriate for mice
This is advertised as being for mice, hamsters and rats. But realistically it's not appropriate for any of these small animals. The spacing on the bars is way too large for mice. And a 10 gallon aquarium even with this addition doesn't even closely meet the basic space requirements for hamsters or rats. I had to heavily modify this so my mice wouldn't be able to slip right through the bars. I also found it annoying that the ramp doesn't reach the bottom without the hide box which is very large and takes up 1/3 of a 10 gallon aquarium.
Not worth the price
It's cute. It costs too much. My daughter's hamster already got out through the bars, they're very loose and stretchy. The ramps are cheap plastic. The shelves slide back and forth, he fell through once. The water bottle leaks, until it's empty, we have to change the bedding every other day. I do not reccomend this.
great idea badly put together
I loved the idea of expanding my hamsters cage but there is a huge gap between the topper and the tank itself. She could definitely get out of this. Also it was impossible to get all 4 hooks around the tank.
almost escapee
My mice fit right through the bars! It says for mice and gerbils but DEFINITELY not for mice at all highly disappointed
So neat. A lot better
The colors of the items were different. Dark Green shelves ..yellow bowl . Lime Green and purple ramp... light blue house purple ladder . But it’s very good plastic. I don’t see any space where my gerbils might be able to get out, Easy to put together: only down side is i would have liked it to fit the top of the tank a little more snug and the latch on the door isn’t very strong kind makes me nervous lol other then that it’s awesome and they love it !
Not for anything small.
In the description it says for mice - no way. A mouse would escape this instantly. As would a smaller hamster and any gerbil. The way the sides of the cage connect, it leaves a huge gap. I could put 4 fingers straight through it. (Well see how it is after I try zip tying it to close tighter) on top of that the bars bend easily. The ramps are also terrible. They're solid plastic and straight, so the way they connect to the platforms mean it goes straight out, not downwards to the next shelf. (Bending it only breaks it - as I soon found out) The little house is cool, and it does fit on my 10 gallon. That's why it has 2 stars instead of 1. I'm going to try to make this work but if my fixes dont work (pliers - zip ties - my own shelves and ramps) Itll go in the trash :/
Happy for the topper!
This product is MUCH better than the "habitats" Kaytee and everyone else is selling for gerbils. The fish tank is the only way to go with these guys because of burrowing. The only thing I would change is all the plastic. We removed the plastic house at bottom and put in a wood one because they need to chew. It is a bit cumbersome to get the animals out, but you just take the attachment off. No big deal. The gerbils are happy and that is what matters!
Absolutely NOT for mice
I ordered this tank topper to use to expand my mice enclosure. The box itself states it can be used for mice. After assembly it took my mice mere minutes to maneuver between the poorly spaced bars and get out. I had to spend another $30 on fine wire mesh to cover this in order to make it Mouse-proof. :(
