I was so excited for my mouse to try this out, he loves running around in these clear balls. I was cleaning out his area while he was running around in the new ball, suddenly I hear squeaking. My cat got a hold of him! I was able to get my cats into a room, and put my Mousie back in his cage. Thankfully no injuries. I was hoping maybe the cats figured out how to open the ball and it didn't just pop off, but I tested it out. While running around, the lid wasn't secure at all! It just popped off, even though I twisted the lid like I've done in the past. This one was so disappointing, but I love the size of it though. Perfect amount of room, lid is just too loose!

I'm a first time hamster owner who was very on the fence about getting my Syrian a ball, but after losing him under my dresser a couple of times while letting him run free outside of the cage, I weighed my risk and decided it was 1) possibly hurt him trying to move the dresser to get him or 2) have him possibly be hurt in a ball. I went with the latter. I decided on the 11.5 inch ball because I felt the 7 inch would be too small for a Syrian, but when I got it I thought it was huge. I decided to try it anyway because I still believed the next size down would be to small. Although he does look tiny in the ball, my shy hammy quickly got the hang of navigating so that he could almost stop the ballI'm a first time hamster owner who was very on the fence about getting my Syrian a ball, but after losing him under my dresser a couple of times while letting him run free outside of the cage, I weighed my risk and decided it was 1) possibly hurt him trying to move the dresser to get him or 2) have him possibly be hurt in a ball. Although he does look tiny in the ball, my shy hammy quickly got the hang of navigating so that he could almost stop the ball before running into stuff so any impact with furniture is minimal and he can even turn the ball in order to round corners! I placed him inside of it today and I felt like I couldn't get the lid on fast enough because he was ready to roll. Of course his favorite activity now that he has the ball is following me around, so now I have two dogs and a hamster in a ball around me at every turn, but that's ok lol Anyway I only leave him in his ball for 10-15 minutes at a time, but I feel completely comfortable during that time and feel he's having a nice time exploring as well. Only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I've only had it about a week and I'm not sure yet how well it will hold up, but no problems yet.… more
NOT SAFE FOR CHINCHILLAS
on Apr 22, 2019
No matter the size, these should never be marketed for chinchillas. Known in the chinchilla community as "death balls" these are poorly ventilated and chinchillas are highly sensitive to temperature changes. They overheat and die in these balls within 10 minutes of running around. PLEASE don't buy these for your chins!

The small animal exercise ball is a good product despite my prairie dog being smart enough to open it if I don't tape it close. She normally chews the nodules off of the lid within a few days and I have to tape it shut. This time around, she opened it on the first day before chewing. It is fun to watch her move around the house, though.
great product, no problems

I purchased this product for my hamster and there are no problems. This is a great source of exercise for your little buddy! My hamster loves to roam around the house in the ball. I definitely would recommend this.
Great toy and seems escape-proof

I was worried that this exercise ball would be flimsy and the top would not be secure, but it is nice, thick plastic and the lid locks into place so I am not worried about my hamster escaping. Our hamster enjoys roaming around the house and I'm not worried he will get out (or that my curious dog will get IN!).

The ball was great but I ordered too small! Chewey's excellent customer service rep credited me and said we could donate it. We donated it to Raz's vet. They were so happy!

I got these for my gerbils Scout & Nibbles. They're babies right now only about 6 or 7 weeks old so today (their first day trying them out) was just a test run to see if they could handle them. They really had a blast once they figured out what they were supposed to do in them.
They chased my cat and each other around my kitchen.
I can see how the lid can be considered "loose" with them but in my opinion the quality of the plastic had the same durability as any of the others ive owned. Id say for safety measures just tape the lid in place so no accidents happen.

The ball was the prefect size for our hamster. Lid had a small crack in it. It still closes fine. Just wish the ball came with a stand where you can hook the ball on it and the hamster runs like on the wheel but can’t go anywhere.
I didn't realize just how big this was, but good product.

This is a good product, I just wish I would have realized just how big a 13 inch ball is. I'm sure my rats will have no problem fitting in here, may be too big, but I have yet to use it. I will update when they have tried it out. Just for reference I have regular rats, not fancy rats.
