KBroVet-CA1 is a prescription chicken-liver-flavored chewable tablet containing potassium bromide to treat seizure disorders. In addition to therapy, it can be used in combination with other anti-seizure medications or as the sole anticonvulsant. KBroVet-CA1 differs from KBroVet in two ways: 1) KBroVet-CA1 does not contain the inactive ingredient cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) and 2) tablets are no longer scored. Patients may transition directly to the new formulation, with no need for any dosing adjustments.
Proudly sourced directly from the manufacturer or their approved distributor. Guaranteed genuine and backed by the manufacturer.

KBroVet-CA1 (potassium bromide chewable tablets) are indicated for the control of seizures associated with idiopathic epilepsy in dogs.
In a retrospective field study of 51 dogs diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy and receiving only KBr to control seizures associated with idiopathic epilepsy, adverse reactions were documented for the initial 60 days of treatment. Increased appetite, weight gain, vomiting/regurgitation and sedation were the most common clinical abnormalities documented in the 60 day period after start of KBr therapy. Adverse reactions were also documented during the 30 days prior to KBr sample submission. Weight gain, weakness, ataxia, and increased appetite were the most common adverse reactions documented during this time period. Adverse events associated with concurrent use of KBr with other antiepileptic drugs such as phenobarbital have been reported. Neurologic signs were the most common adverse event and included sedation, irritability, restlessness, depression, behavioral changes, ataxia, hind limb paresis, mydriasis, stupor, and coma. The neurologic signs were reported to be reversible.
KBroVet-CA1 should not be used in animals with a history of hypersensitivity to bromide.
Dogs receiving KBr should be carefully monitored when changing diets, administering chloride-containing IV fluids, and administering concurrent medications. Careful monitoring is important in dogs that have a condition that may cause difficulty maintaining electrolyte balance. Animals with decreased renal function may be predisposed to bromide toxicosis. Some dogs may experience epileptic episodes that are unresponsive or refractory to KBr monotherapy and KBr alone may not be adequate treatment for every dog with idiopathic epilepsy. The safe use of KBroVet-CA1 has not been evaluated in dogs that are intended for breeding, or that are pregnant or lactating. The safe use of KBr in neonates and young animals has not been established. Reproductive effects of KBr have been reported in other species. In dogs, ataxia, diarrhea, hematochezia, excessive salivation, shivering, skin lesions, stupor progressing to coma and death have been reported with a dose of 200 to 500 mg/kg a day for 4 to 26 weeks.

Potassium Bromide.
The total recommended daily dosage range for oral administration is 25–68 mg/kg (11–31 mg/lb) of body weight. The dosage of KBroVet-CA1 should be adjusted based on monitoring of clinical response of the individual patient. KBroVet-CA1 may be dosed with or without food. Use of an initial loading dosage regimen may be considered on an individual patient basis, balancing the time required to achieve a therapeutic response while minimizing side effects.
Store at controlled room temperature 20–25°C (68–77°F).
The two products are labeled differently due the FDA’s conditional approval of KBroVet-CA1. Please see the full product label and package insert for details. Additionally, the tablets are no longer scored, nor contain cyanocobalamin (vitamin B-12). All other ingredients remain the same.
KBroVet-CA1 is conditionally approved by the FDA. This means that the product has been proven safe and has a reasonable expectation of effectiveness. The sponsor will continue to collect the evidence of effectiveness needed for the product to receive full approval. Conditionally approved animal drugs are limited to a specific use, which can be found on the package insert. Additional information on conditional approval can be found by searching http://fda.gov for “conditional approval.”
The FDA, following successful demonstration of efficacy, safety and manufacturing protocols, grants drug approvals. A conditional approval is granted for only certain types of treatments for serious or life-threatening conditions where demonstrating effectiveness requires complex or difficult studies. Once safety and manufacturing protocols have been proven, the FDA will consider an approval when there is a reasonable expectation of effectiveness for use. The conditional approval is for one year, must be renewed annually after showing progress toward full approval for up to four additional years.
Yes.
By way of a close partnership with the FDA due to a recognized marketplace need, PRN Pharmacal has manufactured KBroVet for nearly a decade as an unapproved drug, while working toward completion of a formal approval. At this juncture, the FDA granted conditional approval based on reasonable expectation of efficacy, demonstrated safety and approval of manufacturing controls. This is a step forward for the product in the eyes of the FDA.
It is approximately the size of a dime.
There have been no tests dosing dogs with Bromides and feeding peanut butter or any other food combinations, as there are too many variables. The key is to monitor the serum bromide levels to keep them in the 1-3 mg/mL range. The dosing and diet need to be balanced to achieve this range.
Tablets are artificial chicken liver and drops are artificial butterscotch. There is no sucrose in the drops.
No. The product should be kept at room temperature.

When my vet told me to increase the dose the pharmacy was very helpful in contacting the vet, updating my records and quickly shipping the correct number of pills. I don't have much to say about the pills except they are necessary. I can't recommend them since they are a controlled substance and I am not a vet.
Chewy was very fast to deliver. I was running low and received shipment quickly! I appreciate the service for my Ollover!
Potassium Bromide is being used on our dog’s epilepsy. He has idiopathic seizures unresponsive to Keppra, partially responsive to Phnobarb. He is still having daily seizures with Potassium Bromide. He is dopey, more ataxic, slower to respond to commands . He is not more hungry, nor is he thirsty. He still has daily 1-2 -3 seizures. I was told this would take 3-6 months to show improvement. He is still his sweet self and we are not allowed to give him treats, since any change in his chloride load will alter the daily response to the potassium bromide. The kbrovet has food mixed with it, which prevents the pill getting stuck in his esophagus and causing ulceration. I suspect that the compound Pharmacy at “chewy” could make a much cheaper version of effective drug. I will ask the vet after 3 months to do that, since these three drugs are expensive and basically ineffective. I am willing to dose the dog for 6 full months before asking to withdraw the Keppra and then possibly the bromide. Phenobarbital was marginally effective in reducing the intensity and duration. The vet is very patient and so I must try to be. This drug is usually effective, at a cost of major side effects. “Chewy” was very helpful getting the prescription and to offer the generic version of kbrovet. Follow all pills with water or a yoghurt, to get the pill into the stomach
This is a great medicine for my dog who has seizures.
Pills are not scored and therefore difficult to cut in half when needed
Excellent service from start to finish. Meds arrived in plenty of time. No worries at all.
This product was a great addition for my dog's epilepsy.
My basset hound was diagnosed with epilepsy seizures and potassium bromide and phenobarbital work to keep the seizures away. The problem we have is the Kbrovet CA1 500mg is hard to get. Tried the 250mg and my boy had 5 seizures in two days.
I was charged 3 times the price due to the Colchester Vetinarian not bying in bulk
This med is a lifesaver for my St Bernard who has seizures. She could not take the liquid bromide so i found the chewable tablet on Chewy. It has never been out of stock before now. Please Chewy get it back in stock
